Engineer (Civil)

Department: Parks

Full-time, Hourly

Hourly Range: $30.39 - $45.67/hr

Job Summary

The Engineer (Civil) will provide civil, municipal, recreational, environmental, and structural engineering planning and design services for various Park System projects. This position will also supplement skills available through the Planning & Development Division of Parks, to design capital or maintenance projects and to manage consultants for design of larger projects. The primary purpose of this position will be to implement projects approved in the capital budget as well as review third-party initiatives for land use impacts.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare, supervise, and review the development of complete plans, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for the construction, alteration or maintenance of County Park facilities including roads, bridges, underground utilities, storm water management facilities, parking facilities, buildings, and other park assets.
  • Organize and participate in project liaison activities with consultants, contractors, public officials, the general public, cooperating agencies and other public jurisdictions.
  • Review energy and environmental audits including noise level measurements, water and or storm water quality sampling, inspection of building materials, and other pertinent data.
  • Participate in building and bridge inspection including structural inspection surveys, preparation of reports, and determination of safe load ratings and required repairs and replacement.
  • Inspect or supervise construction on projects presenting difficult or complex problems with the responsibility for layout, material testing, and all activities and communications to ensure that the project is completed in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned, such as preparing Requests for Proposals, selecting and hiring consultants, managing consultants, reviewing outside agency and private development impacts to County land, special studies, investigations, and comprehensive reports in the field of civil, structural and environmental engineering, public presentations, public engagement, etc.
  • Use of Equipment, Tools and Machinery - Operate automobiles, computer, printers, plotters, measuring tools, camera, and testing instruments.

Required Education, License/Certification and Experiences

  • Current residency within the State of Wisconsin upon application required
  • Valid WI Driver's License required and must be maintained throughout incumbency
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering required.
  • At least three (3) years or more work experience in Civil Engineering required.
  • One (1) year or more of Project Management work experience required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as Microsoft Outlook, Word Processing, Excel Spreadsheets, and Microsoft Teams required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Auto-CAD required.
  • Excellent public speaking and good presentation skills required.
  • Personal vehicle required.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD Civil 3D systems for design and plan production required
  • Previous work experience in construction estimating required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE (Professional Engineer) licensed in the State of Wisconsin preferred.
