Job Description
United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County has a unique position opening as Account Manager – Resource Development.
United Way is a recognized national brand and is the largest funder of health and human services outside of the federal government. Funds raised through United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County remain local and are invested in nearly 220-plus programs at over 110 local nonprofit program partners.

Develop strategies and tactics to increase workplace and corporate giving in Corporate Engagement portfolio.  This includes planning, organizing, leading and researching in order to develop new workplace giving campaigns and increase existing ones.  Cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with company decision-makers, ambassadors, assigned cabinet representatives and volunteer solicitors.  Supervision of a team of temporary employees (Loaned Executives) during the campaign season.

  • Direct responsibility for portfolio of accounts in Corporate Engagement Division.
  • Develop timelines, key strategies and action plans for portfolio of accounts.
  • Set campaign goals that increase the resource development capability of United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County and integrate plans necessary to achieve them.
  • Research and develop plans for leadership and major gifts prospects within portfolio of accounts.
  • Manage collection of account information, input data and provide accurate reported/projected results.
  • Prepare notes for and attend meetings with United Way leadership and/or Campaign Co-Chairs with executive level staff at companies in portfolio.
  • Spend significant time interfacing with donors and potential donors.
  • Cultivate relationships with company decision-makers and other individuals having an influence on company corporate gifts, sponsorships, volunteerism and employee giving.
  • Assist and participate in trainings, meetings and recognition events for internal and external stakeholders. This could include temporary staff, workplace giving campaign coordinators, volunteers and cabinet members.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations about United Way. Presentations will vary in topic, length and audience size.
  • Support Volunteer Engagement team with in volunteer event planning, preparation, and management.
  • Prepare documentation and promote sponsorship opportunities for accounts to partner with United Way.
  • Manage a team of temporary employees. Monitor performance to goals and expectations and provide timely coaching and feedback.
  • Identify concerns and opportunities and direct appropriate actions in a timely manner.
  • Provide on-going information and support for volunteers and Loaned Executives assigned to accounts.
  • Gather data and observations at end of campaign period to determine future initiatives.
  • Work alongside other Corporate Engagement Account Managers on various projects that impact the whole division.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with assigned cabinet representatives and volunteer solicitors.
  • Develop and review prospect lists with volunteers and make assignments based on information gathered.
  • Prepare volunteer solicitation notes for accounts in portfolio.
  • Provide prompt and regular communication with cabinet leadership and assigned volunteers
  • Prepare and maintain prospect lists.
  • Analyze data, campaign results and trends as a basis for developing strategies for growth.
  • Develop effective strategies to secure new corporate gifts by identifying companies with the strongest vendor relationships.
  • Bring in at least five new accounts/streams of revenue. This can include new corporate gifts, new employee campaigns, new sponsorships, and/or new Leadership and Tocqueville donors.
This job has supervisory responsibilities for 2-4 seasonal Loaned Executives.


  • Undergraduate degree related to marketing, sales, business or planning from four-year college or university and 2-3 years fundraising or related experience.
  • Understanding of marketing, sales or fundraising and customer service roles and general supervisory experience. 
  • Understanding of non-profits, human services and philanthropy.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. 
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Ability to apply word processing and database management software concepts to practical situations.  Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Good understanding of group dynamics and good group facilitation skills.
  • Experience in working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to prioritize and balance competing demands.
  • Ability to work in a complex environment using technical and interpersonal skills.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
