Job Description
Milwaukee Health Services, Inc. (MHSI) is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC) that operates from two (2) sites: The Isaac Coggs Heritage Health Connection at 8200 W. Silver Spring Drive and the MLK Heritage Health Center at 2555 N. Martin Luther King Drive.MHSI offers a range of primary health care services including Medical, Dental, Behavioral, Women’s Health, Benefit Determination, and Pharmacy. FQHCs service everyone regardless of income, or third party coverage, and seek to provide high quality care in accessible locations and at convenient times. Our particular sites primarily target the residents of Milwaukee’s north side, but service patients countywide.FQHCs are unique in their delivery of care, patient population and provision of services. FQHCs seek to provide quality care in an underserved area to the uninsured populations that would otherwise not have access to care.

POSITION SUMMARY:    Responsible for technical and clerical duties for the pharmacy and is involved in the preparation, distribution and delivery of medications under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.  Additional duties include inventory management including ordering, stocking, and handling of expired drugs.

 

POSITION-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 
 
  • Perform activities associated with unit inventory maintenance in dispensing areas and complete order forms that are used internally for obtaining drugs.
  • Process drug orders written by physicians for patients. Floor stock supplies by: interpreting the order, calculating the dosage, packaging the order, and labeling the product. Assess the need to affix patient-specific instructions for self-administration to the drug container.
  • Generate and/or maintain appropriate records related to medication distribution and dispensing.
  • Utilize various equipment including tablet counters, label printers, laser report printers, computer keyboards/terminals, pharmaceutical packaging equipment.
  • Maintain correct stock of prescription labels and order new stock.
  • Assist the pharmacists in conducting monthly inspections of all medications for expired drugs.
  • Participate in orientation of pharmacy technicians, pharmacist, pharmacy residents, and senior pharmacy students on rotation in the department.
  • Communicate with public, patients and health care personnel.
  • Maintain area orderliness and cleanliness.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

 
 
  • Education:     High school graduation including a general mathematics course.  Pharmacy Technician certification preferred.
  • Experience:   The equivalent of one year experience as a Pharmacy Technician, or two years experience in a position directly related to the natural sciences, or two years post high school education in the natural sciences or related area, or a combination of related experience and related post high school education to equal two years.
  • Expertise:      Ability to read, write and follow directions. Type 45 words per minute, operate a cash register, telephone, fax machine, adding machine, and other office equipment.  Establish and maintain a good working relationship with a variety of people. Work under stressful conditions with frequent interruptions.  Maintain confidentiality of patients’ medical status and personal information. Familiarity with generic/trade names of medications and working knowledge of clinic pharmacy practice, ability to properly read prescriptions and select the correct medication.
  • Language:    Comprehend and use basic language either written or spoken to communicate information and ideals.
  • Hours of Work:  May vary based on Organizational need.
  • Travel:   May vary based on Organizational need.
