Position Summary
Sony Corporation of America currently has an opening for an Applied Research Intern in our U.S. Research Centerlocatedin San Jose, CA. This positionis responsible forresearch and developmentin the area of3D datacompression,machine learning,computer vision, computer graphics, and image/video processing with emphasis on innovation for advancingthestate-of-the-arttechnology. Focus includes but not limited to contribution in the International Standards Bodies for the development of next generation3D dataprocessing and compression technologies

Required Qualifications

  • Currentlyenrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

  • Research backgroundin the area of3D/2D compression, machine learning, computer vision, computer graphics, or image/video processing

  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills

  • Good familiarity with C++ and Python programming languages

  • Familiarity with 3D codec standards, such as the international standards for point cloud compression (V-PCC and G-PCC), is a plus

  • Working experience withstate-of-the-art3D representations, such as Gaussian Splats, is a plus

  • Working experience with currentstate-of-the-artresearch topics on machine leaning tools for 3D computer vision and/or compression applications is a plus

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills

  • Publication record

  • Knowledge of video and 3D data compression

  • All candidates mustbe authorized towork in the USA

The target hourly rate for this internship is $50.00per hour. The individual will be paid hourly and eligible for overtime.
