Description

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will work with physicians and nurses in the practice to provide medical treatment for patients. The candidate is expected to become an active member of the patient care team in a busy, academic otolaryngology practice covering all aspects of the field of otolaryngology head and neck surgery. Training will be provided. Candidates are eventually expected to perform office-based diagnostic procedures and independently assess, manage and counsel patients alongside the physician staff. This will include running independent clinics with patients of all ages.

Duties include:

  • Perform patient history, physical examination and make assessments and diagnoses based on this information, as well as initiate, review and revise treatment plans and records. Present data in a manner meaningful to the supervising physician.
  • Provide patient care services to the medical practice.
  • Assist physicians with interventional treatments, respond to incoming phone messages from patients, and return patient calls.
  • Referrals to other healthcare providers and/or consult the physician for further definitive therapy.
  • Order and evaluate appropriate non-invasive diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Instruct and counsel patients on health care, health maintenance, medical problems, treatment plans, nutrition or other related issues as appropriate.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Nursing.
  • Current registration to practice as a Licensed Registered Nurse in New York State.
  • One (1) year post licensure nursing experience.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.

Physician Assistant:

  • NYS license and certification as a Physician Assistant.
  • Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) from an accredited school of Physician Assistants.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in a fast paced medical practice.
  • Experience with EMR.
