Central Washington University is recruiting an Academic Success Coaching Coordinator to join our Learning Commons team in Ellensburg, Washington. The Role:

The Academic Success Coaching manager is responsible for developing the Peer Mentoring program utilizing two legislative funds. They collaborate with the Asst Director for Advising and Peer Mentor programs and the Dean of Undergraduate studies to successfully incorporate coaches in the UNIV 101 program. Coordinating mentors in UNIV 101 also requires clear and consistent communication with partners in each of the Academic Colleges. This position partners with the Learning Commons Training Manager to develop and offer ongoing training for peer mentors, using strategies that align with high impact practices. This position also participates in assessing program initiatives and Learning Commons services. This position collaborates with other Learning Commons staff and campus partners to determine and meet emerging student academic support needs through outreach, program initiatives, and collaborations. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Advising and Peer Mentor Programs. All employees are expected to support CWU's commitment to diversity and to bring and support inclusion into the university environment.

Job Duties

Coordinate Peer Mentoring
- In partnership with the Asst Director and Dean, develop programmatic strategy and goals for Academic Success Coach and Wildcat Academic Mentoring in alignment with stated objectives.
- Oversee the integration of academic coaches/peer mentors into UNIV 101 program
- Partner with the Training Manager to conduct ongoing training of student employees, focusing on developing trainings specifically for peer coaching and mentoring staff. Topics to include academic success strategies, time management, wellness, resource referral, peer advising, resilience, emotional intelligence, and goal setting
- Serves as an active member of the Learning Commons team and takes part in staff meetings, team building, events, outreach, and collaborative efforts that allow the Learning Commons to function effectively as a whole
- Collaborate with advising to incorporate peer mentors into academic warning and probation recovery strategies for students

Supervision
- Actively engage in recruitment for new student employees
- Clearly define performance expectations, ensure accountability, and provide ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring
- Conduct formal performance evaluations
- Ensure student employees have necessary resources
- Oversee and direct the work of student employees; serve as mentor, coach, and leader, and resolves complaints or issues
- Promote professional development opportunities
- Develop and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation, and engagement
- Communicate information to student staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community
- Takes corrective action in a timely manner
- Recognize and reward student employees for good performance
- Adjust leadership style as needed to achieve results
- Value and encourage diverse perspectives, creativity, and teamwork
- Maintain tutor schedules

Assessment
- Complete quarterly and annual assessment of services to inform planning and staffing
- Provide all assessment information to the Training and Assessment Manager
- In partnership with other LC staff, track and analyze learning and usage data to ensure goals are being met

Outreach and Communication
- Manages regular communications and materials to advertise services
- Facilitate interdepartmental collaborations between the unit and other student support and academic departments
- Collaborate with Learning Commons team to create effective and consistent marketing for all Learning Commons services
- Participate in campus events as needed to educate the university community and prospective students on LC services

Professional Development & Ongoing Training
- Participate in organized, professionally affiliated trainings/conference, such as CRLA or other relevant organizations
- Research and review content related to best practices in peer coaching and mentoring strategies and content related to developing as a mentor, leader, and coach to student employees

- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year of experience working in or supervising programs for peer education, mentoring, advising, or coaching
  • Supervisory experience or experience leading teams/projects
  • Demonstrated ability and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and experiences
  • OR applicable combination of education and/or experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the position's essential functions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in an area associated with student development, advising, counseling, higher education or similar fields
  • Experience creating and providing training opportunities for student employees
  • Experience conducting assessment and using data to inform decision making
  • Demonstrated knowledge of learning center best practices and pedagogy
  • Experience or interest in mentoring students from a variety of backgrounds
  • Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into everyday conversations

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: This position has a minimum annual salary of $40,333 and maximum annual salary of $56,457. The Hiring Department's expected hiring range is $40,333 - $48,400. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the hiring range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an in-person, indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer workstation for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
