Overview

Wonderland Camp and Conference Center is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Assistant Camp Director - Programs. This Christian camp, nestled in the scenic beauty of Camp Lake, Wisconsin, offers a range of programs aimed at providing transformative experiences for campers of all ages. The Assistant Camp Director - Programs will oversee a variety of activities, including high adventure ropes course, pool and lakefront activities, outdoor education, activities for rental groups, and programs specifically tailored for Salvation Army groups.

This is a full-time, year-round position with competitive salary and benefits. The Assistant Director - Programs will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of campers and guests while fostering a spirit of adventure, learning, and faith.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive program strategy that aligns with the mission and values of Wonderland Camp and Conference Center.
  • Manage and supervise program staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Oversee the scheduling and coordination of program activities, ensuring a diverse and engaging experience for campers and guests.
  • Collaborate with the camp leadership team to ensure seamless integration of programs with other camp operations.
  • Maintain program equipment and facilities to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Develop and manage program budgets, ensuring financial sustainability and responsible use of resources.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes Christian values, teamwork, and personal growth.
  • Cultivate relationships with partner organizations, including the Salvation Army, to enhance program offerings and community engagement.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, seeking feedback from campers, staff, and stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.
  • Represent Wonderland Camp and Conference Center at community events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
  • Lead the recruitment effort in collaboration with Divisional Youth Secretary and Human Resources department.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Executive Director of Camp.

This individual relates to, and interacts with, a wide range of contacts both within and outside

The Salvation Army. In these contacts, this individual acts as a representative of the Army and its mission.

PERFORMANCE MEASURMENTS

This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation management, outdoor education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in program management, preferably in a camp or outdoor education setting.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff and campers.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing innovative program initiatives.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to outdoor activities and adventure programming.
  • Commitment to Christian principles and values, with the ability to integrate faith-based teachings into program activities.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).

  • Have a valid drivers' license and be able to pass the MVR check.

POSITION LIMITATIONS

  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the Executive Director of Camp informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Capable of participating in outdoor camp activities. Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, etc. and in outdoor recreation environment.
  • Work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment with potential high and low noise levels, and work will be outdoors which will be cold in winter and hot in the summer with potential high and low noise levels.
  • Includes some travel to attend meetings.
  • This position is required to do light physical work and must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
