Job Summary
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Sciences and Mathematics is seeking an Accountant to manage the finances of the department.

Essential Functions
Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
  • Provide financial reports and budget analysis for the department chair.
  • Manage the Contracts and Grants post-award accounting for the department's faculty. This will include organizing and maintain files of awards, monitoring expenditures to make sure they are allowable and conform to the terms of the award, assisting faculty on spending policies and procedures, reporting to faculty on their grants, and liaising with COSAM's Associate Dean for Research office.
  • Managing pre-award proposal development for the department in conjunction with COSAM ADR's office.
  • Reviews and approves all financial documents for the department
  • Supervision of the Financial Associate
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Level I - Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or a Bachelor's degree plus a CPA with 0 years of experience in accounting services.

Level II - Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or a Bachelor's degree plus a CPA with 2 years of experience in accounting services.

Level III - Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or a Bachelor's degree plus a CPA with 4 years of experience in accounting services.

Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one year relevant education per year of required experience.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

Minimum Skills and Abilities
Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, a working knowledge of Excel and demonstrated organization and time management skills.

Desired Qualifications

Desired Qualifications
Contracts and Grants accounting experience as well as knowledge of Auburn University's policies and procedures.
