POSITION SUMMARY:
The School Liaison, embedded within pediatric primary care, provides guidance to families who need support in navigating the education system in order to better meet their child's needs. This person acts as the primary liaison between school district, the BMC care team, and parents/students for the purpose of facilitating access to resources.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
The responsibilities of the School Liaison can vary based on the specific needs of the family. Types of support that families may need include, but are not limited to:
Providing support to families to navigate the Special Education system or secure an appropriate IEP
Identifying and linking families with high quality early education
Assisting with transition planning for children entering into a new school
Acting as an advocate for families whose needs are not being met per an existing IEP
Assisting families with a variety of activities (e.g. completing forms, making phone calls, moral support, etc.) for the purpose of meeting the academic and social needs of the child
Informing families of school rules (e.g. sick leave, absentees, suspension, enrollment deadlines etc.) for the purpose of providing better communications and/or direction
Preparing written materials (e.g. reports, memos, letters, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information to the school system
Building partnerships with MA schools in order to support families in effectively navigating the education system

Job Requirements
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in education or special education with at least 5 years' experience working within the MA school system
EXPERIENCE:
Experience reviewing Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and assessing their accuracy for meeting a child's needs
Experience working with children with developmental or behavioral difficulties preferred
Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Haitian Creole preferred
