Description

CIS seeks a creative Master of Proposals, aka a Proposal Director, that will develop a strategy to track, develop responses to, and win competitive bids for CIS's asset management and advisory services. The Proposal Director provides guidance and support on a variety of business development assignments and will play a crucial role in managing the RFI (Request for Information), RFQ (Request for Qualifications) and RFP (Request for Proposal) processes ranging from highly strategic proposals and qualification packets to project interview preparation and presentations.

Until a full-time Business Development Director is hired, you will report to the Managing Director - Asset Management Programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understanding Client Needs: Analyzing RFPs etc. thoroughly to understand the client's requirements, objectives, and constraints.
  • Strategy Development: Developing a comprehensive strategy for crafting a winning proposal, including positioning CIS's strengths and unique value propositions.
  • Team Coordination: Collaborating with subject matter experts, writers, graphic designers, and other team members to gather necessary information and ensure a cohesive proposal.
  • Timeline Management: Creating and managing a detailed proposal timeline to ensure all deadlines are met and the proposal is submitted on time.
  • Content Creation and Review: Overseeing the creation of proposal content, ensuring it aligns with the RFP requirements, is well-written, and effectively communicates the consulting firm's capabilities and solutions.
  • Quality Assurance: Conducting thorough reviews of proposal drafts to ensure accuracy, completeness, compliance with RFP instructions, and adherence to the firm's quality standards.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identifying potential risks associated with the proposal, such as technical feasibility or resource constraints, and developing mitigation strategies to address them.
  • Budgeting and Pricing: Collaborating with finance and pricing teams to develop competitive pricing strategies that balance profitability with client affordability and market competitiveness.
  • Client Engagement: Liaising with the client or RFP issuer as needed to seek clarification on requirements, address concerns, and build relationships that may positively influence the evaluation process.
  • Continuous Improvement: Conducting post-submission debriefs to analyze the proposal process, identify lessons learned, and implement improvements for future proposals, contributing to the consulting firm's overall growth and success.
  • Business Development Support: Provide support to the CIS Market Directors by researching potential clients and identifying leads. Assist in preparing presentations, pitches, and client presentations.

What You Will Need:

  • Enthusiasm to work within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team comprised of progressive urban greening experts to make positive and impactful change across communities through careful implementation of climate resilient, green best practices.
  • Motivation to serve underserved communities.
  • Undergraduate degree with at least seven years of proposal writing experience in the engineering/ architectural field with leading national/regional firms.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, (specifically tables, templates, and forms), PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe applications. InDesign and Photoshop proficiency is a plus.
  • Proven experience in technical and creative writing.
  • Strong preference of past experience in leading Architecture/Engineering/Construction companies.
  • Ability to work effectively on short turnaround assignments and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independent of others.
  • Ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Position Location Requirements

Preference is for candidates located in greater Milwaukee, Seattle, Washington DC, and Ann Arbor regions, but candidates can be remote. The candidate is expected to attend in-person meetings as required and should anticipate approximately 10% travel time throughout the year.

The pay range for this position is $80k to $120k. Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge, and location. This position is also eligible for a discretionary performance incentive.
