Georgia-Pacific Consumer Products Operation is seeking qualified professionals to consider for a Paper Machine Leader role supporting the Consumer Products Group Operations located in Muskogee, OK. The Muskogee facility uses integrated technology to manufacture tissue and paper towel products in a progressive production environment. This is a great opportunity to work in a climate-controlled work environment with opportunities for advancement.

The Paper Machine Leader is responsible for overseeing the efficient and safe operation of the paper machines within a paper manufacturing facility. This leadership role involves managing a team of engineers, performance leaders and technicians, ensuring smooth production, maintaining quality standards, and optimizing machine performance.

What You Will Do

  • Embrace influential leadership to support the organization while advancing our Principle-Based Management (PBM) culture
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures, promoting a culture of safety within the paper machine department
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies related to waste management, water usage, and emissions
  • Provide leadership to the salaried team. Build teamwork and capabilities through training, mentoring, and performance management
  • Monitor and manage the operation of the paper machine to achieve production targets and quality standards
  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to address equipment issues, implement preventive maintenance plans, and minimize downtime
  • Conduct regular inspections of the paper machine, identifying and resolving operational inefficiencies, and implementing process improvements
  • Monitor and analyze process variables, such as speed, temperature, and pressure, to optimize machine performance and ensure product quality
  • Collaborate with the quality control team to implement quality control measures, conduct quality checks, and address any non-conformances
  • Manage the inventory of raw materials, chemicals, and supplies required for the paper machine operation
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by actively seeking opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in paper machine operations
  • Prepare operational reports, maintenance logs, and other documentation as required
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as production planning, logistics, and customer service, to ensure smooth production flow and timely order fulfillment


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Strong leadership skills, including ability to motivate and develop a team of engineers, performance leaders, technicians and operators
  • Five or more years of previous experience in paper manufacturing or similar industries, with a focus on paper machine operations
  • Strong technical knowledge of papermaking processes, paper machine equipment, and quality control standards
  • Prior supervisory experience with proven leadership skills, with the ability to develop and motivate a team effectively
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of safety regulations and commitment to promoting and maintaining a safe work environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with team members


What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Paper Science or any other related field with years of relevant work experience in paper/pulp, change management and leadership preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and address problems efficiently
  • Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to analyze complex situations, identify root causes, and develop appropriate solutions
  • Continuous improvement mindset, with knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and process improvement methodologies


For this role and based upon knowledge and experience we anticipate paying up to $170,000.00 per year. This role is eligible for performance pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
