Position Summary
This position reports to the Director of Advising and Curriculum Systems under the CAES Office of Academic Affairs and will advise students in select departments within CAES. Academic Advisor positions in the College will be housed in and work closely with the departments that coordinate the students' majors they are assigned. In addition to professional, independent work advising students on course and program selection, this position assists departments within CAES with student recruitment and retention, experiential learning and career Development activities. The advisor attends department meetings and works closely with department faculty, gathering information to disseminate to students and providing feedback to faculty to aid in department decisions. This role also assists students in preparing for and participating in experiential learning and other student enrichment activities. Advisors at this level are expected to have full knowledge of resources that support students in areas other than their academic life and to refer students to appropriate individuals and offices as needed.

Advising Students:
Meet with students to recommend courses for the next semester, prepare advising forms, answer student questions, and direct students to resources on campus. This involves extensive prep time, competency in advising-related software, and awareness of campus resources.

Participate in recruitment events for the college and the academic departments in which the position's majors are housed.

Attend classes, workshops, and conferences related to academic advising and student affairs. This can include, but is not limited to, the Certificate in Academic Advising, Fall and Spring Advisor Workshops, Advisor Brown Bags, and NACADA conferences as budget allows.
