Arnold Ventures is a philanthropy whose core objective is to maximize opportunity and minimize injustice. We are dedicated to tackling some of the most pressing problems in the United States. We invest in sustainable change, building it from the ground up based on research, deep thinking, and a strong foundation of evidence. We drive public conversation, craft policy, and inspire action through education and advocacy.

Position Overview

Arnold Ventures' Criminal Justice Initiative aims to make communities safer and make the criminal justice system fairer and more effective, based on high-quality causal evidence. The Initiative works with teams of experts from inside and outside government and across disciplines to reform the U.S. criminal justice system through research, evidence, testing innovative pilot programs, and policy change. We fund this innovative work through three teams working on the domains of Community Safety, Courts and Post-Conviction.

We are seeking a Manager of Criminal Justice Policy to identify, analyze, develop, and pitch new, high-leverage grants opportunities aligned with our strategies, manage current philanthropic investments, and engage a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external, in research, policy, advocacy, and litigation. This position will be based in either our Washington, DC or New York offices and will report to the Director of Criminal Justice Policy.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage grants and investments, track progress and impact, and draw lessons from these investments to inform strategic priorities and the development of future investments.
  • Provide thought partnership to prospective on proposals by advising on the design and structure projects and deliverables and establishing performance metrics
  • Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders, experts, and new and existing grantees.
  • Analyze and draft summaries of relevant legislation, policy and programming to inform strategic priorities, research agendas, and the development of future investments.
  • Prepare presentations on the Policy team's work, as needed.
  • Travel as needed to attend conferences or work with colleagues in other Arnold Ventures offices.
  • Collaborate with other teams as needed to meet Criminal Justice Policy team objectives. For instance, help with the organization and hosting of convenings of researchers, policymakers, and/or practitioners with the goal of building networks and creating new opportunities for research.
  • Other duties to support the team's work, as needed.

The salary range for this position will be $95,000-$130,000.
