Job Summary

The Lactation Consultant RN manages the needs and care of the breastfeeding family. Educates women, their partners, families, health professionals, and the community about breastfeeding and human lactation. Provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, registration, and/or assessed competencies. Practice will be in accordance with laws and regulations and will adhere to established policies, procedures and practice guidelines.

Job Responsibilities

Performs other duties as assigned to meet goals and objectives
Participates in continuous quality improvement activities to ensure the provision and improvement of safe and quality patient
care
Assists in the design, instruction and evaluation of internal and external breastfeeding/OB education and promotion.
Takes call as required to provide lactation care coverage
Provides individual consultation via inpatient, outpatient and/or telephone.
Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team as a consultant, instructor and mentor/preceptor to other
health care professionals and clients in the hospital and community settings.
Delivers patient care in complex, multiple problem breastfeeding situations.
1. Addresses the physiological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial and spiritual needs of the patient and family/support
system. Using a family centered approach, educational needs may range from pre-conception through time of weaning,
assisting the mother to attain her individual breastfeeding goals.

Education

Required:
Associate Degree in Nursing.
Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Experience

Required:
Two (2) or more years clinical experience.

Skills/Cert/Licenses

Required:
Licensed as a Register Nurse in the State of Georgia.

Certification of International Board of Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLE) {Must obtain within six months of position start}
Basic Life Support (BLS).
