Overview

Rapiscan Systems | AS&E, an OSI Systems Company is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager based out of Billerica, MA.

Lead and manage a cross-site Manufacturing Engineering team focused on New Product Development, Industrial Engineering Strategy and Revenue Product Sustainment. This role position is to develop manufacturing strategies, provide leadership and manage the transition of new product introduction through all phases of the NPI process. This requires a high level of collaboration, hands-on involvement and leading cross-functional teams to ensure design for manufacturability and test are embedded into the NPI process early on. Achieving lean designs and effective build processes will be obtained through use of Design for Manufacturing, FMEA's and deployment of Lean Manufacturing methods.

In addition, this role will drive the overall US Security manufacturing strategy focused on site strategy, make/buy decisions, space utilization improvement and factory setup. This person will be a key leader on the Operations Team, responsible for positioning the manufacturing business for continued business growth and acceleration toward the future.

This is an onsite position based in Billerica, MA. Some, infrequent travel is required to familiarize with other product lines and to manage other business locations. As part of the site strategies to be defined, some businesses may shift locations and extended, brief travel may be required.


Responsibilities

  • Drive cost-down initiatives through sustaining engineering.
  • Manage a team of manufacturing engineers responsible for generating work instructions, production support and revenue delivery.
  • Identify, setup and lead projects that focus on continuous improvement, improved space utilization and cycle time reduction.
  • Serve as the central node for manufacturing strategy and championing the strategy within other functional areas.
  • Provide leadership and management oversight to the Manufacturing and Test Engineering teams.
  • Lead the Operations Team in and through the NPI process.
  • Develop product integration and test strategies, including make vs. buy decisions and BOM structures, early in the NPD lifecycle to help optimize the design to achieve the lowest possible product cost and labor hours.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and other organizational departments to lead and facilitate DFx and PFMEA cycles.
  • Champion Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including value stream mapping, RCCA reviews, Kaizen events, cellular manufacturing, kanban, etc. Provide coaching and development to employees and provide hands-on leadership.
  • Develop product integration documentation and test fixtures.
  • As necessary, train internal and external personnel on Rapiscan standards,

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma required, Mechanical Engineering degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years work experience in a capital equipment environment
  • Experience in New Product Development environments leading efficient transition of product into production
  • Strong background in Lean Manufacturing and Design for manufacturing techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and ability to interact in a technical environment.
  • Familiarization with Industrial Engineering and factory setup
  • Additional skills in process development, process and quality improvements, and root cause problem solving.
  • Experience setting up, transitioning and/or closing factories a plus. Similarly, experience with manufacturing site location strategy is also a plus.
