The Operations Leader is a member of the Joplin Plant NLT, reporting to the Plant Leader. He/she has the responsibility to provide strong leadership that engages every employee with respect to safety, quality, and productivity. The Operations Leader is key to the cohesive function of the Operations and Maintenance groups working together to achieve plant objectives in an effective and efficient manner. The Operations Leader drives the creation and implementation of the operations strategy for Joplin and facilitates the successful execution of this strategy.

Reports to: Directly to the plant leader and is an integral partner in executing the technical and quality strategy for the plant.

Span of Control: 4 direct reports (production supervisors) and approximately 60 hourly employees indirectly

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Living the Safety Stand, Adhering to Safety Responsibilities, & Driving a Safety Culture

  • Allocate resource requirements and investments to help drive the effort to zero recordable injuries at the Joplin Plant
  • Ensures a safe, clean, and environmentally compliant work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors in which safety is the first priority
  • Partners with the Safety team to conduct accident investigation, as well as make recommendations for a safer workplace
  • Acknowledges and celebrates safe behavior and achievements in Joplin employees

Knowing the Business & Our Customers

  • Foster a working environment of engagement, empowerment, and ownership for all maintenance and operations employees
  • Accountable for Root Cause Analysis related to customer complaints as they arise and implementation of corrective actions as needed to address these complaints
  • Execute successful qualification of products in collaboration with the technical team
  • Ensure consistent production of quality products on time and at the lowest possible cost - operates with a mindset of zero defects
  • Translate our customer expectations to the floor and execute strategies to better serve the needs of our customers and relevant stakeholders
  • Work to be recognized as a department of example across Owens Corning for our sister plants

Management of Operations

  • Drive department objectives and priorities in support of the plant vision and goals, and develop teams to deliver strong results and execution of these objectives
  • Live the Owens Corning employee values and hold others accountable to conducting their work with these values in mind - integrity, respect, accountability, sharing, candor, fun
  • Proactively analyze and manage performance metrics accordingly for production (OE, JE, OEE)
  • Foster engagement of the workforce through open communications, mutual trust, and teamwork, both within and between operations and maintenance groups
  • Ensure operational standard work and procedures are implemented and consistently adhered to in the plant and maintenance shop
  • Emphasize adherence to 5S standards and lean manufacturing in all areas of the plant and partners with the TPM leader to see to the execution and participation of TPM initiatives on the floor (AM & PM)
  • Foster an environment of positivity, creativity, diversity, and collaboration where employees are owners for the success of the plant and the business

Leading & Developing Talent

  • Establish clear and measurable performance expectations and holds direct reports and their teams accountable for delivering on their goals
  • Accountable for ensuring personnel is appropriately trained and remains current on required certifications to perform the full scope of their job expectations
  • Regularly evaluate the strengths and development areas of both maintenance and operations teams as well as individuals, and invests in the growth and development of Joplin team members
  • Create a working environment that attracts and retains both internal and external talent
  • Continually strive to be a leader who both challenges and connects with employees at all levels in Joplin
  • Support recruitment and hiring efforts for open operations and/or maintenance positions as needed
  • Oversee and support efforts behind performance management systems for the primary workforce
  • Maintain documentation, counsel, and execute coaching and corrective action plans as needed when performance issues arise

Lead Across the Plant & the Company

  • Drive alignment between plant departments
  • Share best practices, challenge thinking, and provide candid and respectful feedback
  • Set an example for the organization of how teamwork and partnerships should operate
  • Be recognized as a great leader across the plant - support cross-functional experiences, teams, and projects to continually drive engagement
  • Assist the plant leader with other duties as needed to achieve plant goals and objectives

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, or other related field
  • 5+ years minimum of related work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing people leadership experience

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Six Sigma and lean manufacturing
  • Proven track record of achieving results by engaging others
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and lead multi-functional teams to meet objectives
  • Work experience in manufacturing maintenance a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to handle stress and problem resolution techniques in a constructive manner
