Job Description

The Heat Treat Engineer will be a key teammate in the Monticello heat treat department. The ideal candidate will have heat treat experience in a dynamic fast paced environment servicing aerospace customers using the AS9100 QMS in a NADCAP certified heat treat facility.

Key Responsibilities:

Under General supervision of the Quality Control Manager, this role is responsible for the following:

  • Responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Heat Treat department.
  • Work in conjunction with plant Quality Manager to prove current heat treat processes, and driving to root cause any quality issues resulting from the heat treat process
  • Ensure all testing and analysis is performed according to production requirements to meet customer requirements.
  • Oversees the execution of Pyrometry testing (SAT's & UAT's) ensuring that records are completed per Quality System and Nadcap requirements.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the Nadcap accreditation for the Heat Treat/metallurgical processes in the facility (creation and maintenance of applicable procedures and forms)
  • Use problem solving skills with 5-Why and 8D methodology process. (team member for any non-conformances related to the Heat Treat processes)
  • Assist Production by implementing RBS/continuous improvement activities in Heat Treat.
  • Apply and sustain RBS in 5S lean manufacturing work practices in work area(s) to maintain safe work environment.
  • Work closely with Quality group to improve heat treat process in order to increase yields
  • Participate in process improvements in any area of the facility.
  • Oversee Heat Treat processes in accordance with the NADCAP and AS9100 requirements.
  • Assist with Heat Treat policies & procedures, documentation, and practices are in place per industry standards
  • Issues and revises standard policies and operating procedures, work instructions and forms in accordance of the applicable standards (NADCAP)
  • Assist and help prepare department for Heat Treat customer/industry audits (NADCAP) that sustain NADCAP Heat Treat accreditation
  • Provide guidance on nonconforming product disposition for heat treat process related rejections based on customer and NADCAP requirements.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and take appropriate corrective and preventive actions to ensure closure of findings from all internal or external audits on processes.
  • Program furnaces at the correct operating temperatures, times, speeds, and at any other criteria according to specification documentation.
  • Recommends new and replacement machines and writes capital X requests for the Heat Treat department
  • Assist with the maintenance of the Heat Treat area by working to assure adherence to the preventative Maintenance schedule.
  • Trained in Right to know emergency contingency plan & Hazardous Material Handling
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS

  • This position requires the application to be a US Person with a US permanent residence. A US Person a US Citizen or Green Card holder
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, preferably Materials Science or equivalent related experience.
  • At least 0-2+ years of heat treat experience in a manufacturing environment

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Previous experience with case carburization
  • Familiarity and experience conducting destructive and non-destructive testing
  • Ability to work from drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to follow shop practices and inspection/testing requirements.
  • Experience with Vacuum Furnaces, Carburizing, and Through Hard preferred.
  • Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma within 3 years
