Number of Positions: 1

Starting Salary: $76,956

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Division Chief of Teen Services, the LIII Teen Services Arts Specialist develops and implements arts focused programming for teen audiences and develops support materials for other library staff to create programs. Plan and implement systemwide initiatives such as Teen Winter Challenge, Radical Fit or others as assigned. Manage Mad Skillz kits (programs in a box) and staff training on kits, including project planning, committee management, budgeting, and evaluation. Create and implement a strategy for Mad Skillz kit development based on current trends, staff needs, and library resources. Create and maintain effective relationships with city-based partners, as well as city agencies, cultural institutions and other relevant youth-serving organizations to collaborate on systemwide initiatives and departmental projects. Organize presentations and information sharing opportunities about departmental work to both internal and external stakeholders. Plan and facilitate professional development for library staff, external stakeholders, and other city agencies. Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of library staff. Support Teen library staff across Chicago Public Library as a liaison for the Teen Services Department. Communicate clearly and effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. Manage multiple work streams and engage in a high level of teamwork and communication. May serve as Person-in-Charge.

LOCATION: HWLC 400 S. State Street Chicago, IL

DAYS OFF: Two days off per week

SHIFT: Will be required to work some evenings and weekends

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited American Library Association college or university with a master's degree in library science or an approved foreign credential evaluation plus two years of professional library experience.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

* Project Management experience

* Experience working or volunteering in a public library

* Previous related supervisory experience

* Arts Education experience; teaching experience or other arts programming experience (preferably post school experience).
