Job Description

Summary:

Perform various skilled Operations duties relating to safe and accurate piping line-ups, measurement, sampling, movement, storage and documentation of various products stored, received or delivered at the Nederland Terminal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Principle Duties for a Central Control "C" Operator include, but are not limited to, documentation and accurate recording of crude oil movement data logs, charts, and customer tickets. Collect, run, correctly tag, and deliver samples to the laboratory.
  • Gauge, sample, take temperatures and thief tanks accurately documenting results.
  • Document oil movements and record any changes on movement sheets for discrepancies.
  • Monitors the DELTAV system, answers phones and radio transmissions.
  • Perform safety inspections and issues work permits throughout the facility.
  • Stand by for all high-rate pipeline switches in the Terminal as directed by the Central Control "A" Operator.
  • Assist and perform LOTO when needed for Terminal Maintenance department.
  • The Central Control "C" Operator position will also be required to assist the Central Control "B" Operator with various tasks as needed and work additional duties as assigned at management's discretion.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • The individual filling this position must be capable performing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Individual must have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Preferred experience includes a minimum of one year experience as a Dockman or other petroleum terminal experience.
  • Individual must have the ability to follow verbal and written instructions and have a working knowledge of pumps, manifolds, pipeline systems and accounting procedures, along with a basic knowledge of DOT and regulatory agency requirements.

  • This is a 12-hour rotating shift position and is subject to overtime and response to call-outs or emergencies when needed.
  • The C Operator classification is the job progression step for employees wishing to advance to an B Operator position.
  • The successful applicant will be required to learn the duties of an B Operator and relieve in that position when appropriate.
  • Requires prolonged walking, sitting, bending, climbing, stooping and communicating via telephone and radio.
  • Must be able to work outside in inclement weather.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Requires the ability to climb storage tanks in excess of 60' tall.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs and scaffolding and maneuver in small spaces.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time. Approximately 50% of time on the job is spent standing up.
