eCommerce Software Engineering Manager

We are looking for an experienced eCommerce Software Engineering Manager to join the DoMyOwn.com team that can help deliver on this mission. This is an Exempt, remote, full-time position. Pay for this position begins at $120,000 annually, based on experience.

The eCommerce Engineering Manager is a hands-on position, combining people leadership and developing eCommerce applications built in PHP using the Laravel framework. Successful candidates for the eCommerce Engineering Manager position will have prior success growing and developing Engineering organizations including supervising a team of full stack software engineers, planning and delivering successful projects that meet established goals, removing technical challenges preventing projects from being completed on time and within budget, and working with key stakeholders across the organization to help provide the best eCommerce experience for customers.

As the Software Engineering Manager, you will manage our team of full stack software engineers focused on a large suite of eCommerce technologies. This includes websites, marketing technologies, data analytics, warehouse, supply chain technologies, and more. As the Engineering lead of a small growing team, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating software development across our engineering development teams.

Responsibilities:

Organizational Development: Continue to develop and nurture the Engineering Team culture. Work with team to define and iterate on process improvements that allow for quick and accurate goal execution.

Continuous Improvement: Develop processes and ways of working that help the Engineering team collaborate and drive best in class results. Maintain high standards by fostering and executing on a culture of continuous improvement to confidently release products without defect including proper testing, quality assurance practices, unit testing standards, testing frameworks and tools.

Development Excellence: Maintain software development practices that are at the highest level of excellence and are easily repeatable and scalable. Ensure development is cohesive, maintaining a bird's eye of all applications when planning and developing for new enhancements and features. Contribute to the development of new features, system enhancements, and maintenance as needed.

Project Management: Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize, design solutions, and define timelines, scopes, and deliverables for new features, functionalities, backlogs, and defects. Ensure clear goals, project deliverables, and priorities are communicated to teams.
Oversee Production Support: Ensure we are successful and maintain a high standard of excellence to customers pre- and post-deployment.

Development of the Team: Utilize experience with different types of software engineering focus tracks to lead, inspire, motivate, mentor, and develop the Engineering team.

What You Bring:

  • 5+ years of prior experience building ecommerce web applications
  • 5+ years of prior engineering team people leadership; managing a successful team
  • Advanced skill level in one or more object-oriented programming languages; PHP framework such as Laravel is preferred.
  • Experience with Javascript frameworks such as Vue JS and Angular JS
  • Experience with unit-testing, functional testing, regression, and user accepting testing
  • Familiarity with PSR coding standards (PHP-FIG)
  • Very strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Highly self-motivated and a self-starter
  • Strong ability and desire to learn and understand new technologies, frameworks, and coding methodologies
