Overview:

Loureiro Engineering Associates, Inc. has an immediate need for an industrial services controls technician to support the Machine Guarding and Industrial Wastewater Services in our Plainville, Connecticut Office. This position will support a diverse mix of projects and provide an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in several of our service areas and operating divisions. 

The primary role of the technician will be to support and conduct field installations and design activities involving industrial projects and systems. The technician will be tasked with controls design and procurement, electrical and control wiring, control panel building, read/create electrical wiring diagrams, electrical controls installations, troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical systems, and fabrication. The following are typical project types and services:

  • Machine Guarding – Machine existing operations and integration of new safety controls.
  • Industrial Wastewater Treatment Systems – Existing system controls, system improvements and integration, new installations.

This position will require hands-on work with fabrication and in field installations for complex systems and components. Manual dexterity, good technical skills and hands-on ability are of the upmost importance for success in this role and will be required to fill this position. The ability to read instructions represented in manuals, drawings, schematics, etc. is preferred, but training will be part of this position. With the diverse projects and environments, training and good safety practices will be of the upmost importance while performing all field activities, and adherence to company and client regulation is a mandatory part of the position.

Responsibilities:
  • Installation of electrical controls systems in industrial and manufacturing settings.
  • Power wiring with cable and flexible raceways.
  • Field and panel control wiring and termination of peripheral cables.
  • Fabrication of control panels.
  • Fabrication of brackets for mounting of equipment/sensors.
  • Installation of machine guarding equipment, including drilling, threading, or tapping for mounting or anchoring.
  • Perform troubleshooting of machine control boards, PLC’s, and systems. Perform equipment installations, maintenance, and preventive maintenance as required on capital assets and production equipment.
  • Read and comprehend work instructions, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Work from electrical drawings and schematics/diagrams. Use precision measuring instruments and equipment to check machines or mechanical equipment for accuracy and reliability.
  • Design and procurement of controls systems.
  • Refer difficulties to Field Supervisor, Technical Director, or Project Manager.
  • Compliance with internal and client specific safety standards.
  • Will be required to train for and maintain licenses, operator permits, and certifications within an assigned field.
  • The following trainings are preferred: Lockout Tagout, OSHA 10, OSHA 30, NFPA 70e.
Requirements:
  • HS diploma, Technical School or equivalent.
  • Basic acumen with hand tools and electronic troubleshooting tooling.
  • 2+ years’ experience in electrical or controls trades.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and demanding environment. Knowledge in organizing, planning, and prioritizing work.
  • Knowledge of repair and troubleshooting methods as applied to CNC or complex machinery such as Vertical Turn Lathe’s, CDL’s, and other manufacturing capital assets.
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic controllers for capital assets such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, and others.
  • Ability to work from drawings and schematic diagrams, read technical prints of some complexity, and use basic mathematics.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments and equipment to check machines and equipment for accuracy and condition.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Adherence to safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Physical strength and stamina to perform installation and maintenance tasks.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination, mechanically inclined, and intellectually curious.
  • Computer skills Microsoft Office programs i.e., Word, Outlook, Excel.
  • Ability to travel to out of state projects.
  • Completion of approved electrical training program in Connecticut preferred.
  • Technical knowledge and ability to read latter logic preferred.
