Position Director, Behavioral Health Division Healthcare Association of New York State Description

The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) is seeking a Director, Behavioral Health. Reporting to the Vice President, Insurance, Managed Care and Behavioral Health, this position will lead the development of advocacy strategies and initiatives related to behavioral health under the direction of the VP for Insurance, Managed Care, and Behavioral Health. The position holder will participate in collaborative efforts with HANYS' members and advocates on their behalf with regulators, lawmakers, and policy leaders. The position holder will also lead the development of member communications and provide behavioral health leadership within not only the Managed Care team, but HANYS as a whole.

While this is a hybrid position based in Rensselaer, NY a remote working environment may be considered within New York State. The expected salary for this position is between $95,000 and $104,000 annually. Payrate offered will be based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities and in consideration of internal equity.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develops strategies, goals, and objectives for HANYS' behavioral health programming with direction from members and organization leadership.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for HANYS' behavioral health initiatives, including internal divisions, government agencies and partner associations.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with entities that regulate or influence HANYS' members' behavioral health activities, such as state and federal agencies and accrediting organizations.
  • Represents members at legislative hearings and statewide meetings and committees impacting HANYS' members' behavioral health services.
  • Supports the development of HANYS' state and federal behavioral health legislative agenda.
  • Creates and delivers communications to inform and support members in the form of comment letters, white papers and emails providing updates on behavioral health activity.
  • Leads the development and implementation of HANYS behavioral health activities and programs including planning and hosting webinars and specialized workgroups and committees.
  • Participates in HANYS' overall strategic policy planning activities as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in health-related or public policy field; Master's degree preferred. A medical or behavioral health license and/or certification or background would be a bonus. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be substituted.
  • Minimum of five to seven years of related experience with behavioral health policy and advocacy work.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of both state and federal legislative & regulatory processes.
  • Aware of recent trends and developments within the behavioral health field.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with internal and external groups.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to travel frequently.
