As a Senior User Experience Engineer, you'll be part of a passionate team of UX and software development professionals dedicated to delivering innovative solutions that empower members to manage their financial lives seamlessly. In this role, you will serve as a design lead and team mentor for the user experience design of UW Credit Union's digital channels with an emphasis on usability, including interface design, information architecture, prototyping, and user testing. You will also serve as a technical lead for front-end web development in CSS & HTML, including the architecture of UI component libraries. You will be responsible for ensuring adherence to the UW Credit Union brand and collaborating extensively with stakeholders and engineers to design innovative and industry-leading experiences. This is a hybrid position requiring two days a week onsite at our Madison, WI headquarters.

Responsibilities
    Serve as a lead designer of user interfaces and user experiences for UW Credit Union's digital channel, including web applications and mobile apps.
  • Develop and communicate user experience technical requirements using high quality user experience (UX) deliverables, such as personas, prototypes, information architecture diagrams, mockups, and workflow diagrams.
  • Build pre-production prototypes of web applications and mobile apps using CSS, HTML, Figma and other design tools.
  • Use product analytics and research data to inform UX strategy and technical implementation
  • Serve as the design lead to develop and maintain a UI component library in Figma and collaborate with Software Engineers to develop and maintain the UWCU Design System
  • Architect and maintain a UI component library, including custom CSS/SCSS libraries with a focus on usability and accessibility. Establish guidelines and rules for use of UI components.
  • Design solutions to challenging UX design and front-end development problems with little supervision.
  • Demonstrate dedication to user-centered design and strive to deliver the highest quality digital member experiences.
  • Appropriately size the UX effort (prototypes, user tests, etc.) for a given project based on project priority and timeline.
  • Establish and follow CSS & HTML code quality standards to produce maintainable and reusable code for use in an agile and rapidly-changing software development environment.
  • Provide prompt, courteous and quality UX support to engineers and internal stakeholders.
  • Perform CSS and HTML code reviews for other UX team members.
  • Serve as resource to other team members regarding UX best practices and UW Credit Union's UX processes and methodologies.
  • Partner with Marketing to ensure digital experiences, including the digital style guide, maintain UX and brand integrity.
  • Provide UX expertise and guidance to business units and project teams.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of new tools, processes and technologies for user experience design, front-end development in CSS & HTML, user research, and analytics, and advise Internet Services Leadership on their adoption.
  • Explore potential UX solutions to business needs through proactive research and/or prototyping and communicate them with a compelling design vision to inform future development.
  • Maintain working knowledge of design and user experience trends.
  • Explore innovative UX practices and front-end development technology to further our member experience.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years' experience in UX Design/Engineering
  • Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction, related field or equivalent experience required
  • Agile project management methodology experience is preferred
  • Experience working with Figma is required
  • Proven experience with designing, testing, building and optimizing UI components that are accessible, performant, and scalable
  • Prior work shows direct experience and proficiency in UX/UI design and front-end engineering
  • Demonstrate experience with shaping product experiences to meet (and possibly exceed) Accessible and Inclusive Design Guidelines
  • Demonstrated experience with native and responsive web app UX/UI standards is a must. This includes but may not be limited to HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks such as React, Storybook
  • Prior work experience shows successful leadership as a liaison between Product stakeholders, UX and Software Engineering
  • Demonstrated commitment to frequent and open collaboration with Software Engineers and Product stakeholders during the design to development process
  • Prior work shows how they used an understanding of business value and product strategy to lead to successful design outcomes - direct experience with maintaining and optimizing product experiences to meet KPI's is a bonus
  • Prior experience demonstrates a working knowledge of user research techniques - in particular, user interviews, surveys, and data analysis
