Position Summary:

Moraine Park Technical College is seeking a full-time Maintenance Mechanic for our Fond du Lac Campus. This position is responsible for repairing, maintaining, inspecting, and installing all systems and projects, specializing in building trades such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing and carpentry.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma (or equivalent), a completion of an accredited technical, vocational and/or apprenticeship training program and five years of work experience in builings and grounds maintenance or building trades.

Responsibilities:

    Make periodic inspections of buildings and grounds to diagnose potential problems and take necessary action to prevent damage or interruption of service.
  • Operate, adjust, maintain, service, and repair boilers, valves, circulating pumps, air handling equipment, air conditioning equipment, and DDC and pneumatic controls.
  • Detect, troubleshoot, and solve electrical problems on equipment and controls. Test and repair electrical circuits, panels, and fire/security alarm systems, and run temporary power for special events. Coordinate power outages for construction purposes. Repair and service electrical motors and emergency generators.
  • Install and maintain water and sewage lines, high-pressure air lines, and other related plumbing duties.
  • Assist with planning and performing minor construction or remodeling projects, including painting, drywall, vinyl wall covering, and the moving of furniture and equipment. Determine the number of materials, supplies, and labor needed.
  • Fabricate and weld metal projects.
  • Provide a safe environment for employees and students by assisting with cleaning the campus of snow and ice using appropriate methods.
  • Operate and manage the energy management computer system.
  • Answer and respond timely to emergency situations outside of working hours.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of building and grounds maintenance equipment, tools, and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize, diagnose and correct mechanical problems. Ability to operate, adjust and control mechanical apparatus found in building operations.
  • Knowledge of software applications, including Microsoft Office 365 (Office Suite, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently with little supervision and make sound decisions with minimal direction.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize special projects with routine assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Universal EPA HVAC Refrigerant Chemical Handling technician certification; may be required to obtain post hire.
  • Experience with commercial flooring, ceiling, and roofing work.
  • Forklift experience; certification within 6 months of employment will be required.

Other Position Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to perform physical labor including properly lifting 25 lbs. consistently, up to 80 lbs. individually, and 80+ lbs. with assistance. Ability to identify what type and when to utilize mechanical lifting assistance such as hand cart, pallet jack, or forklift.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding, operate various types of lifts and reach above head in order to work on projects.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and crawl.
  • Ability to perform duties within extreme hot and cold temperature ranges, dusty, and dirty work environments to complete job assignments.
  • Flexible scheduling may be required due to response needed for snow removal, emergency calls on various systems and building alarms.

Hiring Range:$25.45-$29.94 (Pending board approval)

Starting: Immediately

Hours/Schedule: Academic: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (40 hours) and Summer: Monday - Thursday, 6:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (36 hours)
