Specialist, Student Engagement and Support - Central Campus

FUNCTION: The function of the Student Engagement and Support Specialist is to drive student engagement and retention through the delivery and awareness of programs, events, and activities and support the basic needs resources provided through Student Engagement and Support.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Develop and deliver collaborative student facing programs that celebrates equity, the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our students.
  • Create, coordinate, organize, and execute events and activities based on the interest/feedback of a diverse student population to support student retention efforts.
  • Oversees the daily operations of Student Engagement and Support basic needs resources and programs.
  • Support the overall goals and activities of San Jacinto College's student leadership program.
  • Lead marketing efforts to increase the population of students who engage with student/campus life through digital media and targeted outreach.
  • Interview, train, and manage FWS and PT staff to monitor their performance, realigning as necessary to meet the needs and standards of the department as established by the Coordinator, Student Engagement and Support
  • Maintains awareness of best practices, emerging trends and new legislation relating to student programing requirements.
  • Serves as an advisor for the Student Government Association.
  • Assist and train student leaders/club advisors in required functions of their role.
  • Ensure the consistent and accurate capture of event attendance/data and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
Additional Job Functions:
  • Administer and implement assessment programs and surveys at on-campus events to evaluate learning outcomes and best practices.
  • Assist with student transportation to intercampus and off-campus events and activities.
  • Serve as point of contact for the department in the absence of the coordinator.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Possess excellent leadership, organizational, and problem solving skills.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills.
  • Ability to promote and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and work well under limited time constraints.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other departments, external contractors and vendors, groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multiethnic and multicultural environment with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Possess computer literacy (Outlook and MS Office).

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree OR
  • Associate Degree with three years of experience in a directly related field (Student Life, Student Activities, Events and Programming)

Preferred Experience:
  • Two (2) years involvement in college or university student activities.


Note: This position has limited opportunity for remote work arrangements with appropriate approvals and in accordance with the policies, procedures, and needs of the College.

Salary Grade: 109

Salary is based on the Board-approved salary schedule for the current fiscal year. See Salary Schedule
