Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
University Career Services (UCS) provides personalized and innovative career education to empower student success and transformation. Our vision is for all UNC-Chapel Hill students to create lives of purpose and prosperity in alignment with their personal goals. Our services include individual career advising, internship and employment search assistance, workshops on career readiness, on-campus interviewing, graduate school preparation, internship and job listings, and occupational information.
Position Summary
A Sign-On Bonus of $5,000 is available for the successful applicant to be paid in the first month on university payroll. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

Under the direction of the Director of Career Education, the Assistant Director of Career Education serves as a member of the Career Education team within University Career Services (UCS). The Assistant Director will cultivate a campus community that prepares all UNC students for career success and works with specific student populations to achieve their career aspirations. The primary goal will be to develop universal and tailored strategies to reach every UNC student with high quality career education initiatives and to embed career education into the fabric of the university. With an emphasis on presenting, programming, training champions, and group sessions, the Assistant Director will strategically develop and scale programs for students to engage in career programming - including, but not limited to self-assessment, major exploration, career exploration, job search preparation, job/internship search strategies, graduate/professional school planning, personal branding, networking, and other related professional development topics.

The Assistant Director will work with strategic partners across campus to develop collaborative interventions and programs. The role will also lead key career-related initiatives (ex. mentoring program, shadow program, career immersion, career treks), which deliver career education content that is relevant and deliverable in various settings. To achieve this work, the Assistant Director of Career Education will work with UCS leadership, distributed career staff across campus, students, staff, faculty, alumni, and employer representatives.

The Career Education team will serve as university-wide experts on career education and lead University Career Services strategic efforts to engage students in career development activities. This role will strive to empower all students to identify career paths, secure work-based learning opportunities, and ultimately find career success upon graduation.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.

* Ability to effectively create and deliver presentations and workshops to large audiences.
* Computer proficiency (specifically Microsoft Office Suite and industry standard career management systems, Handshake).
* Demonstration of adaptability and flexibility in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment; ability to utilize technology in the delivery of student programs and in managing projects.
* Willingness to learn and use new and emerging technologies including social media and online resources.
* Unwavering commitment to the highest of ethical standards and professional integrity.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Master's degree in business, higher education, marketing, human resources, or a related field
* Minimum three (3) years of experience within career development, higher education, human resources, academic advising, or other relevant corporate and community experience.
* Strong ability to collaborate with multiple and diverse constituents to accomplish goals.
* Analytical mind and problem solver with ability to think systemically.
* Demonstration of professional independence, industry knowledge, innovation, critical thinking/judgement skills, communication, presentation, teamwork, and strong time management.
* Knowledge of program evaluation and assessment techniques. Experience with survey design and data analysis is desired.
* Experience leading change and innovation, resulting in a high level of performance outcomes.
* Understanding of career education, career readiness, career exploration, and emerging trends within the career development field.
* Working knowledge of online recruiting systems (e.g., Handshake, Symplicity, etc.).
* Valid NC Driver's License or eligibility to hold a valid NC Driver's License.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
