Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's (LBNL) Laboratory Directorate has an opening for a Business Analyst to join the team.

The Business Analyst position is a dynamic role at the forefront of strategic partnerships and business systems development. Collaborating with key stakeholders like the Strategic Partnerships Office (SPO), the Chief Financial Officer's Office (OCFO), IT, and external partners, you'll lead in evaluating, enhancing, and managing a new grants management platform. Your responsibilities span from analyzing business needs, proposing process improvements, and ensuring compliance to facilitating system implementations, upgrades, and integrations. Your expertise in business principles and technology will drive troubleshooting, solution recommendations, and ongoing system enhancements. Additionally, you'll play a crucial role in reporting, systems compliance, and process automation, working across departments and with external entities to streamline operations and enhance productivity.

What You Will Do:

Implementations, Upgrades and Integration

  • Execute components of complex business systems projects.
  • Contribute to defining purpose, scope, deliverables, and timelines, providing regular progress updates to the project team.
  • Provide technical support and lead, when appropriate, new platform implementation including analyzing and preparing business system and workflow requirements, project planning, risk management, testing, training, stakeholder communication plan, and completion report.
  • Collaborate with the LBL Information Technology division for best practices, policy assistance, or network change issues.
  • Coordinate activities with other business systems analysts, functional users, and IT software engineers to analyze, test, and resolve issues.
  • Document and track future platform enhancements and business process developments.
  • Collaborate with SPO leads to create, own, and maintain all SOP and best practice documents related to SPO systems.

Reporting and Systems Compliance & Enhancements

  • Manage business assurance processing (e.g., outside of new grants platform) such as interim foreign influence tracking, SME working group for contract negotiations.
  • Implement and document business process (e.g., SOP) changes (e.g., G-invoicing).
  • Identify areas for change or enhancement to improve the quality and efficiency of SPO systems, continually evaluating new services and tools.
  • Conduct periodic system access reviews and identify IT needs, creating specifications relative to new platform enhancements.
  • Provide ongoing communication between system owners, IT, and users regarding system issues, requests, and functional details.

Representations & Certifications

  • Manage current and new sponsor requests in eSRA and the new grants platform.
  • Develop processes for automating or streamlining and tracking and updating reps and certs.
  • Work cross-functionally with the Research Compliance Office, Business Systems Group, and UCOP on applicable reporting.

What is Required:

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience and Bachelor's degree in business, computer or information technology or a related field; or 6 years of relevant experience and Master's degree in business, computer or information technology or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with project management principles.
  • Experience in analyzing process issues and collaborating with IT to troubleshoot system problems.
  • Experience supporting time-critical business processes, providing system production support including monitoring and troubleshooting, and maintaining system setup and configurations
  • Experience effectively communicating between functional and technical staff and several levels of management.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing demands.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills with the ability to interpret, present and/or discuss software and project information with others, which often involves conveying unfamiliar terminology or concepts.
  • Proven ability to analyze existing processes and recommend, lead and implement process improvements and/or enhancements, taking into consideration policy, resource and technology considerations.
  • Ability to influence others across organizational lines and be able to collaborate and build consensus.
  • Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail.
  • Experience managing software implementation projects from conception to completion.
  • Experience creating eLearning education videos and training materials.
  • Proven ability to contribute to the design and development of complex solutions and implement those solutions within project parameters.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in an effort to complete projects successfully and/or troubleshoot issues.

  • This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
  • This position is expected to pay a yearly salary of $126,900 -$158,628, which fits within the full salary range of $126,900-$214,140 for the C71.3. Salary for this position will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications, and aligned with the internal peer group.

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule - a combination of teleworking and performing work on site at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA. Work schedules are dependent on business needs. Individuals working a hybrid schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab.
