HDR is seeking a Business Group Manager (BGM) to lead and grow our Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group in Northern California.

This position works closely and collaboratively with all HDR Area Operations, Business Groups and Market Sectors, and coordinates business practices and project delivery services with markets in the Company that require building engineering services.

Primary Responsibilities

This senior level position is primarily responsible for delivering results through the leadership and management of a team of client development, market sector, and project delivery leaders along with technical staff located in Northern California. The team provides broad-based engineering, consulting, and planning, along with program and project management services to both internal and external clients.

In partnership with the Area Operations Manager and the Regional Business Group Director, prepares annual revenue forecasts and budgets and monitors performance of the BES Business Group. Also helps identify, champion, win, and facilitate projects that match the expertise and developmental goals of the staff.

Strategic Responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership and organizational strategy throughout multiple project pursuit, project delivery, and technical teams
  • Developing and implementing BES growth strategies in concert with the Area Operations Manager, the Regional Business Group Director and Global Market Sector Directors
  • Working with regional and market sector directors within BES to build and implement client-based business development strategies in line with the HDR's global client business initiatives
  • Participating in strategic client and project pursuits within BES and across all business groups

Tactical Responsibilities include:

  • Oversight of teams providing Project Management, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural, Site Civil, and specialty engineering services in conjunction with the Design Services Manager to support a wide range of projects throughout all of the HDR business groups while also championing efforts in the BES market sectors, including Technology Media and Telecom + Data (TMT); Commercial and Real Estate (CRE); Finance; and Hotels Leisure and Entertainment (HLE)
  • Recruitment of key staff and recruitment support for other hiring managers
  • Leadership and Management of staff, including mentoring and coaching.
  • Staff performance evaluations, training, and development
  • Management of key projects where appropriate.
  • Client development and management.
  • Managing marketing and administration staff as applicable
  • Ensuring deliverables meet HDR's quality standards
  • Participation and visibility in the local industry.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, or closely related Engineering degree
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in Building Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, or closely related building engineering discipline, including planning, project management, and project delivery
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Demonstrated experience in building and nurturing team structure for program growth and resiliency.
  • Demonstrated experience with leading diverse teams in an inclusive and proactive manner in executing high quality and timely work for clients.
  • A positive professional reputation as one who can deliver quality, cost-effective projects
  • Self-starter; strong communication and people skills
  • Client Development and Marketing experience
  • Ability to work cooperatively with the Area Operations Manager, other Area Business Group Managers, Regional Director, and other Building Engineering Services leaders throughout HDR
  • Strong commitment to quality, process improvement, and promoting HDR's values
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in one of the Building Engineering Services market sectors
  • Prior consulting experience and client management

The expected compensation range for this position is $162,624.00 - $264,000.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
