Job Overview:

The Accountability team sets and executes the policies by which schools and districts are evaluated in accordance with state and federal law. The Accountability Data Analyst will report to the Director of Accountability Analytics. The incumbents primary responsibility will be to support and implement the states district and school accountability framework. This analyst will support the Accountability team by reviewing documentation for various accountability project and process plans that result in the calculations of the state, district, and schools accountability data. This role will have a significant impact on the accuracy and quality of the data produced by the Tennessee Department of Education, while also providing insight and feedback on the processes and business rules used in the review periods of the documentation. This analyst will also perform data management and analytical tasks that involve large-scale datasets and plays a critical role in shaping district and state improvement efforts through technical leadership and management and reporting of important data points. Through the management, analysis, and reporting of data, this role will support Department leadership and other stakeholder decision-making and execution of strategic initiatives to ensure every Tennessee student receives a quality education. Attention to detail, accuracy, flexibility, and strong time management are key traits of the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide support for various accountability projects and process plans by reviewing documents submitted by schools and districts.

Process, manage, and analyze school and district accountability files and associated data resources for LEA and public consumption.

Perform quality checks to ensure business rules align with state and federal regulations.

Anticipate and solve data and process problems effectively and efficiently Prepare federal data reports Perform ad hoc data requests and analyses.

Collaborate with other department offices, data vendors, and LEAs to improve data collection processes and improve the quality of the accountability data.

Document business rules and methodological decisions made by department content experts and data stewards.

Serve as an accountability resource to department colleagues Support the design and implementation of the states accountability policy decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree (Masters preferred) in public policy, education, mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, or related fields.

Required Experience:

At least [1] year of dedicated experience in using R or Python for data wrangling, visualization, and computation or an advanced degree is statistics, data science, or related field. A willingness to learn other analytical packages is a plus.
