POSITION PURPOSE

This is a safety sensitive position. The position is responsible for electrically maintaining the plant manufacturing equipment and assuring compliance with the National Electric Code. The position interacts with Maintenance, Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Equipment vendors and Machine Integrators.

PLC Programmer Job Description

  • A PLC programmer is an expert in the field of automation.
  • PLC programmers are responsible developing, testing, and programming electronic control systems using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • PLCs are commonly used in automated manufacturing, assembly lines, and office equipment.
  • PLCs use logic controls and ladder logic to control the flow of electricity, and therefore control automated processes.
  • PLCs use a variety of inputs and outputs to control process flow.
  • PLC programming requires complex knowledge of electronics, control theory, and computer programming.
  • PLC programming can be done in a laboratory or in the field.
  • HMI building and programming ABB Robotics.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  • Develop logic for PLCs and field devices.
  • Manage firmware upgrade process.
  • Install, test, and debug systems.
  • Perform measurements and test equipment.
  • Write firmware and software development.
  • All other jobs as assigned.

PLC Programmer Responsibilities:

  • Program PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) using ladder logic Complete detailed programming of PLCs, including ladder logic, schematics, and programming software.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering, project managers, and supervisory personnel to coordinate PLC programming activities.
  • Develop PLC ladder logic, using schematic symbols, for manufacturing automation systems.
  • Troubleshoot PLC programs to resolve problems and ensure the functionality of systems.
  • Create and review PLC documentation, such as schematics, programming procedures and testing procedures.
  • Create PLC and logic diagrams for schematics.
  • Perform electrical and PLC troubleshooting.
  • Modify PLC programs to interface with existing or new systems.
  • Perform PLC testing.
  • Support the PLC programming team, including coaching, mentoring, and assisting with PLC programming.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience with Rockwell PLC programming.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

* Electrical Journeyman preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

* Advanced knowledge of ladder logic programming.

* Familiarity with electrical schematics, diagrams, and blueprints.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

* 3+ years' experience in programming, tuning, and troubleshooting PLCs.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

* Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical and controls issues using diagnostic tools and software.

* Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
