Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Veterinary Clinical Pathology Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our dynamic team and play a crucial role in providing diagnostic support for the well-being of animals. As a key member of our veterinary clinical pathology laboratory, you will be responsible for conducting a wide range of clinical laboratory tests and analyses, interpreting results, and collaborating with veterinarians to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of animal diseases and health conditions.

Responsibilities:
Tasks:
  • Prepares and processes various biological specimens, including blood, urine, feces, and tissue samples, for laboratory testing and solves problems related to collection and processing.
  • Provides technical support in the microbiology and immunology area of the laboratory; prepares cultures, uses area instrumentation, performs a variety of clinical microbiology and immunology tests following established procedures.
  • Provides technical support in the hematology/cytology area of the laboratory; performs hematologic analyses, uses hematology instrumentation, prepares smears, and interprets blood cell morphology for a variety of animal species.
  • Interprets laboratory results, records results, and generates reports for veterinarians.
  • Assists with routine maintenance of laboratory equipment; uses, calibrates, identifies malfunctions, and performs preventative maintenance according to QC task and maintenance schedules.
  • Follows quality control procedures to ensure the reliability and precision of test results, adhering to established laboratory protocols and standards.
  • Provides support in other areas of the laboratory as needed: accession specimens, process according to established procedures; package and submit specimens to referral laboratories, and enter returned results into LIS.
  • Answers phones and assists in clerical tasks, and finding missing specimens or requests.
  • Works closely with veterinarians and other medical professionals to discuss patient cases, answer questions, and provide guidance on laboratory test submissions.
  • Maintains accurate and organized records, a neat and clean working environment, and adheres to safety and health regulations when handling clinical specimens and reagents.
  • Assists with training of students and new employees in laboratory operating procedures and techniques.
  • Provides support for out-of-hour, on-call coverage as needed and other duties as assigned.

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field. Experience in clinical microbiology and hematology a plus.

Qualifications:

Strong knowledge of medical laboratory principles and procedures in hematology (including WBC and RBC morphology), immunology and microbiology.

Proficiency in operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and knowledge of quality control and quality assurance procedures.

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with veterinary professionals. Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Passion for animal health and welfare.

License/Certification:

Preferred
MLS - Medical Lab Scientist (Formally Mt Certification)

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $52,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
Sign-on Bonus of 3% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid over the first year of employment!
