Team Overview:
The Tableau Global Licensing Programs ("GLP") team drives the success of Tableau's Software and Services business within Salesforce by using our unique expertise to deliver across diverse domains of Licensing Consultation & Support, Project Management, Training & Knowledge Management, and Data Analytics & Engineering. In doing so, we help Salesforce enable, understand and durably grow our Tableau business through partner success built on a backbone of trust. We derive, consolidate, and communicate licensing knowledge, pursue internal and external programmatic enhancements and automation for maximum benefit, and influence product feature development to drive license self-sufficiency for both the business and our customers. In our pursuit of continuous improvement, we unlock new and expanded opportunities and empower our customers to better understand, deploy, and manage Tableau licensing to increase the value of their investment.

Role Description:
The Licensing Specialist is an integral part of Tableau's GLP team, responsible for establishing and maintaining excellence in the delivery of support and consultation in Tableau's software licensing domain. Licensing Specialists serve as trusted advisors to internal team members and Tableau customers, offering expertise on Tableau's licensing policies and programs, and their accurate application to customer scenarios of varying scope and complexity. Collaborating closely with Sales, Legal, Technology, Finance, Operations, and Marketing teams, the Licensing Specialist contributes to customer-facing solutions for licensing-related challenges, including guiding on software asset management practices, compliance monitoring and risk mitigation strategies, and successful licensing product feature adoption. With a field-facing perspective on customer and business needs, the Licensing Specialist provides valuable insights on cross-functional projects, can support observations and recommendations based on independent assessment of product usage data, and offers expert consultation to customers and customer-facing teams to deliver a great customer experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a subject matter expert on the Tableau licensing portfolio and serve as the point of escalation for related queries.
  • Efficiently identify and resolve licensing-related issues for internal team members and Tableau customers.
  • Provide expertise and insights in sophisticated licensing-related initiatives and programs.
  • Work with Sales, Legal, and Revenue Operations teams to ensure negotiated deals are structured and documented accurately and in alignment with Tableau's policies.
  • Prepare strategic proposals and other ad hoc presentations and analyses for enterprise customers, focusing on accuracy and consistent structuring of negotiated license grants.
  • Maintain documentation of Tableau's end-to-end licensing functionality, including a comprehensive licensing training portfolio and associated artifacts.
  • Develop and implement communication plans to inform and educate team members on licensing-related initiatives and changes.
  • Fully participate in the testing, implementation and support of critical systems.
  • Use Tableau's products to provide programmatic and ad-hoc analyses to support GLP team positions and drive business decisions
  • Maintain customer- and sales-facing context by supporting critical issues to GLP's team case queue with a mix of tactical licensing support and broader consulting engagements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Business, Technology or related field or equivalent experience. Experience will be evaluated based on the Values & Behaviors for the role (e.g. extracurricular leadership roles, military experience, volunteer roles, work experience, etc.)
  • 3+ years of professional experience coordinating and supporting business processes with a focus on negotiation and risk management.
  • Experience with software licensing or other intellectual property management (including client and/or vendor side exposure).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey sophisticated technical or contractual concepts to team members of varying roles/background.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, handle competing priorities, and work effectively in a high pressure environment to meet timelines.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing customer and business needs.
  • Ability to lead interactions with an educational approach, growing the knowledge of everyone you support while approaching problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Desire to be a top performer by providing expert support and consultation on licensing policies, functionality, and business practices to Tableau's Sales teams, customers, and partners.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant prior work experience in licensing or contracting roles within an enterprise software company.
  • Experience using Salesforce or other CRM tools and familiarity with the Tableau product suite
  • Familiarity with intellectual property licensing principles and application in the software industry.
  • Prior experience working in customer- and sales-facing roles, preferably as part of a cross-functional team in a matrixed organizational structure.
