Job Description
Position Summary: The Coordinator of Children’s Faith Formation (CFF) will develop and implement a religious education program at St. Joseph Academy. The CFF will be responsible for program start-up, teaching, forming collaborations with other parishes (with regards to supporting SJA students with the reception of the sacraments), curriculum selection, and other administrative duties related to the program.
 
Position Reports to: Director of Mission and Outreach
 
Qualifications:
  • Diocesan Catechist Certification, Certificate in Pastoral Studies (or equivalent) and Diocesan Catechetical Leader Certification required; Master’s Degree in Religious Studies, Theology or Pastoral Ministry preferred
  • 3+ years experience in religious education and catechetics
  • 1+ years developing and implementing specialized programming
  • Comprehensive understanding and comfort with Catholic theology, including scripture, morality and the sacraments
  • Bilingual speaker (Spanish) preferred
  • Knowledgeable about Standards for Religious Educators in Catholic Parishes and School
  • Ability to observe and manage classroom environment
  • Exemplary interpersonal, planning and organizational skills
  • Proficient user of MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and phone systems
  • Ability to analyze an issue, identify options, and implement solutions
  • Ability to work cooperatively with people in and outside of the School Program
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) and effectively interact with children, their family members, management, and staff members
  • Ability to respond positively to work direction and guidance from others
  • Ability to work independently, managing multiple demanding tasks under critical timeframes
  • Current CPR, First Aid and Certification
Equipment Used:
  • Office equipment: personal computers, printers, phone systems, fax machine, photocopier
Physical and Mental Requirements: Must have ability to sit (25%), walk/stand (75%), routinely throughout the shift.  Must be able to periodically lift up to 50 lbs. Must have functional senses/manual dexterity to carry out the job; communicate effectively; and use of office equipment. Must have the ability to deal effectively with the stress of managing emergency/critical situations and multiple tasks.
 
Environmental Conditions:
Performs duties with exposure to infectious or communicable diseases inherent to children, occasional exposure to loud or voices due to unpredictable behavior of the children and seasonal exposure to temperatures in internal and external environment.

Essential Job Functions/Duties
  • Assures each family’s and employee’s right to privacy and confidentiality, at all times
  • Extends excellent service to all children and families
  • Ensure quality of service and behaviors are congruent with the mission and values of the ministry
  • Establishes appropriate relationships with children, parents/guardians, staff, and the public which ensures a safe environment that protects children/families’ rights
  • Develop and implement religious education program
  • Teach religious education classes to grades 1 – Grade 5
  • Form collaborations with various parishes to support students with the reception of sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist
  • Oversee curriculum selection for religious education program
  • Communicates verbally and in writing all pertinent information to support the religious education program
  • Communicates pertinent information with members of the team and appropriate departments to ensure response to requests, concerns, or issues
  • Maintain necessary clerical information regarding each student and family
  • Evaluate and monitor student progress
  • Appropriately train and supervise catechists
  • Attend diocesan training opportunities
  • Shows support for school functions by attending Open House, School Board/Parent Meetings, etc.
  • Ensures welcoming environment to all children
  • Participates in meetings to improve communication and problem solving, as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
