Electrical Engineering Supervisor

Location:Greenwood Village, CO corporate office

CLP Engineering (CLPE) is seeking an Electrical Engineering Supervisor to work with a team of Electrical Engineers, Designers, Drafters, and Field Engineers who are responsible for planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems.

CLPE is a full-service electric utility solutions engineering firm with more than twenty years' experience in electrical utility system ownership, upgrades, maintenance and operations through our sister company, City Light & Power. CLPE offers a wide range of power system engineering services to investor-owned, municipal, cooperative, government, industrial, and commercial customers.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Possess and maintain broad and in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and standards related to utility power substation and distribution systems.
  • Design sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and complex commercial/industrial power distribution systems.
  • Oversee an engineering team for the development of specifications, calculations, design drawings, bill of materials and other related documents for power distribution or substation projects.
  • Serve as the technical engineer responsible for project deliverables including technical reviews for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with customer standards and industry codes and standards.
  • Develop design alternatives, engineering calculations, analysis, and engineering estimates for system improvement projects related to substations and distribution systems.
  • Perform site surveys for major upgrade projects to support project engineering and design from concepts through Issued for Construction deliverables. Also, participate in pre-construction job-walks with clients and construction contractors.
  • Maintain an understanding of power system modeling and protection philosophies and schemes. Oversee the team preparation of these deliverables.
  • Serve as the supervisor and mentor for junior engineers and provide guidance to help them grow in their professional careers.
  • Support project execution through construction acting as the owners engineer or consulting engineering and answering project RFIs.
  • Provide technical input for the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates and schedules for large-scale electric distribution and substation projects.
  • Serve as the interface for various customers, providing routine status updates, facilitating technical discussions, answering client questions,and fostering relationships as a part of the project execution.
  • Coordinating meetings, scheduling updates, submitting deliverables, and addressing outstanding open items as requested by clients.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree from accredited university.
  • Degree with a emphasis in power systems is preferred.
  • PE License required.
  • 8+ years' work experience in the electrical utility industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and ability to motivate, provide guidance and oversee daily responsibilities.
  • Expert knowledge with medium voltage electrical substations and distribution system required.
  • Expert with power system analysis (utilizing ETAP or similar software), distribution system modeling, and protective device coordination required.
  • Experienced in drawings, specifications, reports, and other technical documentation as the responsible engineer for the deliverables.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain construction project schedules (Microsoft Project experience is a plus).
  • Must have excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills.
  • Must have multi-tasking, self-management, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Must be a team player and be able to work with various partners from start to finish.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Hybrid work schedule is possible with in-office work expected on Wednesdays and Thursdays when not traveling.

Travel:

  • 35% travel overnight to job sites.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance:

  • You must be a US Citizen.
  • You will be required to obtain Military Base Access Security Clearance
  • Valid driver's license required with a record that meets the CLP Fleet Policy.

Benefits & Compensation:

  • CLP offers an excellent benefits package that includes medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, 401k with company contribution, paid time off and paid holidays. Details to be found in Benefit Guide.
  • Salary range: $131,000 - $164,000 based on experience plus eligible for participation in Short Term Incentive Plan.
