Job Summary

Wading Pool Attendants are the direct service provider of the Playground program. Attendants assist in daily wading pool operations at assigned playgrounds including the water testing, supervision, and rule and safety enforcement of all wading pool participants.

As of November 1, 2021, all MPS employees are required to be fully vaccinated. The health and safety of our staff and students is our number one priority. That's why all offers of employment are contingent on the candidate showing proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (currently one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine) to pass the pre-employment requirements. Individuals with medical issues or sincerely held religious beliefs that prevent them from getting the vaccine may request an accommodation from the vaccine requirement.

Position Summary
  • Understand and abide by all policies and procedures outlined in the Part-Time Employee Manual.
  • Enforce all Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee Recreation policies and rules.
  • Understand and abide by all policies and procedures outline in the Wading Pool Manual.
  • Ensure a safe aquatic environment through supervision, accident prevention, and public relations.
  • Post and enforce the General Rules for the Wading Pool.
  • Perform pool maintenance (chlorine and acid level testing, filling, draining, and cleaning).
  • Ensure compliance with the Centers for Disease Control Guidelines for Public Pools.
  • Keep the Wading Pool and surrounding areas clean.
  • Complete all required paperwork/reports accurately and on a timely basis and maintain pool maintenance records.
  • Maintain constant surveillance of all participants at the Wading Pool.
  • Monitor the weather and remove all patrons from the pool area should the need arise.
  • Assist playground leaders if/when pool is not in operation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervision Required

Works under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and Playground Resource.

Job Requirements
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to meet the scheduling needs required for this position.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Able to lift up to 40lbs continuously.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous work experience in a public setting with a diverse population.
  • Experience in a pool environment and pool operations.
  • CPR/First Aid training/certification.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to effectively communicate with participants, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships.
  • Excellent decision making skills and ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to participate interactively with a diverse group of youth in all playground activities.
  • Ability to work with groups of 20 or more youth at a time.
Working Environment

This environment includes walking, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and possible loud noises when exposed to activities in the park or similar environment. Staff will be required to supervise groups of children and adults as well as assist in the accommodation of children and/or adults with disabilities (within parameters of provided training).
