Summary of Position
This staff position, reporting to the UNH Biotechnology Innovation Center (BIC) Director, provides scientific consulting support to customers of the UNH BIC Pandora Incubator, develops and delivers laboratory skills training curriculum supporting workforce training needs in the biosciences ecosystem, supports the work of doctoral and post-doctoral scholars, and supervises capstone projects for the UNH CPS biotechnology B.S. and M.S. programs.

This position works in UNH Manchester's research and teaching laboratory space (including state-of-the-art cell culture and biomanufacturing laboratory facilities) that form the Biotechnology Innovation Center, home to tissue engineering and other biotechnology companies in a university incubator environment. This position will work at the interface of education and training (both internal and external), research (including the supervision of master's, doctoral, and post-doctoral program research projects), and industry support and collaboration.

Acceptable Minimum Level of Education:
  • Master's in relevant biosciences field, especially biochemistry, biotechnology, biology, bioengineering, biomedical engineering.
  • PhD degree highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated excellence in curriculum development, teaching, mentoring students, and supporting undergraduate and graduate research.
  • Minimum of 5 years of administrative experience in corporate or higher education settings.
  • Demonstrated track record of identifying and engaging key strategic external partners (individual or institutional) for the purposes of building effective collaborative initiatives to deliver programs, curriculum, and industry partnerships.
  • Proven ability to pull together many different constituencies, from both the public and private sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise a professional staff, develop and manage a budget.
  • High energy with the ability to lead teams toward successful collaboration in the development of workforce training that will meet the present and future needs of the region's economic development and corporate communities.
  • Possess highly developed analytical skills, writing and presentation skills, and communication skills that allow for effective communication with stakeholders.

  • Comfortable working independently to achieve organizational goals.
  • Position will be operational, strategic and project-based with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.

  • Due to the nature of the position, some travel will be required, as well as the ability to work outside of normal business hours as needed.

Duty/Responsibility
Training and Workforce Development

  • Seek and develop funding and partnership opportunities to support training, workforce development, and diversity initiatives
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners for the development, and deployment, of work-based learning opportunities, which may include externally funded programs, such as ARMI/BioFabUSA, INBRE, and internal UNH programs such as Semester in the Millyard.

Duty/Responsibility
  • Scientific support of the Biotechnology Innovation Center (BIC) Pandora Incubator, EDA Build Back Better Regional Challenge Grant, and EDA Tech Hub designation projects.
  • Provide scientific consulting support for Pandora Incubator customers working with BIC equipment and services.
  • Provide scientific consulting support for UNH STEM-MoBILE, Manchester CREATES, Paid Internship Program, and UNH STEM Discovery Lab.

Duty/Responsibility
  • Teaching and service relevant to the needs of the Biotechnology B.S., M.S. and PhD programs
  • Teach up to one (1) undergraduate or graduate biotechnology programs course per academic year.
  • Develop and offer hands-on and/or online workforce training courses supportive of the needs of the biofabrication industry in the greater Manchester region.
  • Teaching may also include partnering in the development of certificate-based training opportunities with the Community College System of NH (CCSNH), the Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute (ARMI) and local industry.
  • Service opportunities including support of graduate capstone projects, biotech program reviews, and outreach to partner high schools.
