PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This position is responsible for the development and implementation of the short and long-term strategic plans for specified product portfolios. Incumbent will plan, organize, and control assigned product lines through product life cycles to optimize profit and meet financial and corporate growth objectives. As a member of the Operating Company Leadership Team, the Director Product Management is responsible for executing the annual product portfolio business plan in North America and providing guidance for key global markets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Product/Portfolio Strategy

  • Establish vision and strategic plan for product / segment / portfolio.
  • Develop and execute product strategies to achieve or exceed the operating company objectives of innovation and growth for the specified market segment portfolio.
  • Prioritize opportunities with strategic alignment and analytics.
  • Collaborate with distribution and engineering to define new product offerings, pricing, marketing, and sales strategies.

Portfolio Roadmap

  • Manage and maintain a 3+ year portfolio roadmap.
  • Develop, grow, and sustain product portfolio.
  • Define product requirements incorporating customer and market insights from sales, service & marketing.
  • Lead cross functional team to gain insights on product concepts and finalize roadmap decisions.
  • Develop and manage business case for selected product investments.
  • Determine product pricing & incorporate market/economic-based models from marketing.

Product Lifecycle

  • Manage the overall product life cycle to minimize portfolio complexity, maximize profitable growth and increase customer loyalty.
  • Initiate end-of-life actions for products that no longer add value to the company portfolio.
  • Lead operating rhythm and collaborate with cross-functional team to deliver the roadmap on time with high quality deliverables and deliver target business results.
  • Manage critical risks across the product development process and drive immediate resolution to escalated customer challenges.

Market Insight & Continuous Improvement

  • Perform competitive analysis and identify gaps that exist within the operating company portfolio, including product positioning, design/cost-out opportunities, supplier changes, etc.
  • Identify insights on customer pain points and opportunities, understanding product trends, the current and future needs of the market and the overall customer experience.
  • Lead continuous development, in collaboration with engineering, and incorporate innovative technology into the portfolio.
  • Initiate and drive margin analysis and improvement activities such as pricing actions, cost reductions and product changes to drive profitability.
  • Lead annual rhythm of projects across multi-functional product team tocontinuously drive cost out, improve customer delivery times, andimprove product quality.

Product Marketing

  • Support marketing team to generate the annual marketing plan including the product value proposition and positioning as well as launch and installed base strategies.
  • Provide content for sales literature, sales tools, promotions, ads and other marketing materials.
  • Collaborate with marketing team to deliver product training.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or similar required.
  • 6+ years product management experience.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Sales experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Ability to work and communicate with colleagues across operating companies and supporting functions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Track record of progressing product through the complete product life cycle.
  • Must be able to plan, organize and prioritize work. Must be able to meet deadlines.
  • Up to 25% travel may be required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This role will not have any direct reports.
