Opportunity for an Automation Specialist in the Biomarker and Bioanalytical Platforms group in the Precision Medicine group at Upper Providence. We are looking for you to directly contribute to our ambitions to shorten drug development timelines and deliver medicines to patients with speed and quality. As an Automation Specialist, you will be responsible for the strategy, development, and delivery of automated solutions, including instrumentation and software to enable improvements in quality, safety, and data delivery. You will have the opportunity to grow collaborations directly with scientists and build strategies that will have meaningful impact on their analytical workflows and deliver measurable process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of automation process and technology improvement strategies.
  • Design, implement, and optimize automated laboratory workflows that increase efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain automated systems for optimal functionality and minimal downtime.
  • Author technical qualification documents, work instructions, SOPs, and provide end user training and training materials.
  • Ensure automated workflows and processes are developed, executed, and reported in compliance with GLP/GCP requirements. Address Quality Assurance findings and support investigations.
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of new automation platforms and instrumentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements for customized automation solutions.
  • Drive scientific innovation of automated workflows. Stay informed on current and new technologies through engaging external experts and vendors as well as collaborate with internal automation groups to leverage and contribute to GSK automation communities.

Why You?

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years' experience working in pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment.
  • Two or more years of experience programming, debugging, and optimizing liquid handling scripts for with a focus on Hamilton STAR platforms or similar systems.
  • Two or more years of experience in the independent operation and troubleshooting of liquid handling systems and other automated plate handling instruments (e.g. Echo, Agilent Bravo and SPT instruments) to support analytical workflows, possessing expert knowledge in the field.
  • Two or more years of experience in method validation and sample testing of PK, Biomarker and/or immunogenicity endpoints to support clinical studies.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • MS/PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or related discipline o Software support such as managing change control, version upgrades
  • Experience of the requirements for computer system and software validation to deliver successful outcomes in a regulated environment.

  • Thorough understanding of the drug development process and operational aspects of delivering clinical trials.
  • Strong publication and/or presentation history
  • Having a disciplined approach to automation, focused on quality, compliance, scientific rigor and operational excellence.
  • Attention to detail and good communication and documentation skills.
  • Highly motivated and efficient team player with a proactive attitude, excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to interact effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
