SUMMARY:

The Electrical Product Development Engineer is responsible for many engineering deliverables from product conception through market introduction, manufacturing support, and modification of current product designs. Provides assistance and leadership in the design of new and existing products to enhance product offerings, continually improve quality, maximize product value, and sustain a competitive advantage in the markets Perlick does business.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & REPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Functions as a valued team player who collaborates with their manager and cross functional teams to document engineering requirements.
  2. Assists or leads the conversion of product and business requirements into design concepts and helps determine the appropriate materials, components, systems, and process methods to meet those requirements.
  3. Creates and maintains various Engineering specifications to define company best practices.
  4. Coordinates and performs detailed engineering change management activities to create, update, or obsolete critical components and end products.
  5. Prepares or coordinates with others in the creation of 3D models and engineering drawings in SolidWorks to document components and assemblies, with an emphasis on design for platform/design for assembly.
  6. Assists or coordinates the development and communication of conceptual ideas and solutions to internal teams and suppliers.
  7. Conducts product teardowns, analysis, and reporting on competitive product designs.
  8. Supports or performs rigorous engineering analysis to develop design concepts that meet specifications using modeling software, and rapid prototyping methods.
  9. Creates visual and functional performance standards and assists in developing analysis or functional tests to identify and correct any weaknesses in products to ensure solutions meet aesthetic, functional and regulatory design criteria.
  10. Works with internal and external partners to define and develop prototypes used to validate engineering performance predictions or demonstrate new product features and benefits. Supports the release, sourcing, and construction, and inspection of prototypes with suppliers and manufacturing teams.
  11. Create test plans and product test requests for completion in internal or external testing laboratory.
  12. Perform data analysis and reports to support design recommendations.
  13. Performs root cause analysis and applies systematic problem-solving techniques (DMAIC, PDCA, A3, 8D, etc.)
  14. Participates or leads project team meetings, including formal design reviews.
  15. Keeps leadership apprised of work and ongoing issues.
  16. Able to travel to suppliers, development partners, and manufacturing plants as required to support company goals.
  17. Delivers general engineering capabilities and effort as needed to meet product launch goals.
  18. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to be successful in this role.

  • 4-year degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, or Mechanical Engineering required
  • 2 - 5 years of Product Development or Manufacturing Engineering experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Resiliency and a passion for problem solving
  • United States work authorization
  • Experience with electrical components and systems design, electro-mechanical subsystems, software systems, control systems, and their representative factory assembly methods.
  • Experience using CAD, PDM and ERP systems
  • Knowledge of third-party certification processes such as UL and NSF.
