Overview

A Financial Analyst is responsible for a variety of tasks related to cost/expense reporting for healthcare and human service entities, including state Medicaid agencies, managed care organizations, healthcare providers, and child welfare organizations. Cost/expense reports entail categorizing utilization, service expense, revenue, and administrative expenses across types of services, lines of business, and rate cohorts. This role will focus on cost reporting and rate setting projects. Additional duties will include supporting projects with a wide range of quantitative and qualitative analysis, program research and design, documentation, and communicating with a wide range of internal audiences.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Routinely develop and revise cost report templates
  • Collect, review, and provide feedback on cost and other financial reports submitted by third-party entities serving health and human service agencies
  • Evaluate cost and other financial reports for compliance to provided instructions and applicable regulatory guidance
  • Perform reconciliation of cost reports relative to a general ledger, encounter data, and/or audited financial statements
  • Recognize and identify reporting errors and develop proposed solutions
  • Communicate results to internal stakeholders, verbally and written, within all levels of our organization
  • Perform ad-hoc reconciliations and work on special projects, as required
  • Ensure quality assurance and peer review are completed on all client deliverables

Qualifications

  • Interest and aptitude for performing and managing detail-oriented analytical work
  • Knowledge of accounting/financial statements and managerial/cost accounting for healthcare entities
  • Familiarity with insurance concepts, such as, reserving and premium rate setting
  • Knowledge of health economics concepts, such as, medical loss ratio, underwriting margin, cost and utilization metrics
  • Basic knowledge of SQL, Python, or other coding skills
  • Effective time management skills and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking, exhibit problem solving capabilities, and demonstrate learning agility
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate technical information and concepts, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment and independently manage own work
  • Proven ability conducting financial analysis using Excel

    Required

    • Bachelor's degree with a major or concentration in accounting, finance, business management, or another relevant field of study
    • 2+ years of professional experience in financial analytics, cost accounting/reporting, or related experience

    Preferred

    Professional experience that includes:

    • Working for, or with, a healthcare provider, insurer, state Medicaid agency, or child welfare organization
    • Exposure to SAS, SQL, and/or Databricks
    • Cleaning, aggregating, and organizing data to ensure it is ready for analysis

    The Team

    The Indianapolis Health Practice is strategically structured to serve state Medicaid agencies and other health and human services agencies. The Financial Reporting team works in close collaboration with professionals from our core state Medicaid teams to best serve each of our clients' unique needs. Our dynamic team of finance consultants, accounting professionals, and analysts serve our clients by providing regulatory and contractual financial reporting support, in addition to, reviewing the quality and accuracy of the Medicaid managed care data and financial information. As a member of this team, you will observe how we provide comprehensive consulting services which span from many different disciplines and backgrounds including actuarial, policy, finance, pharmacy, and data management, all working together for a common goal to best serve our clients' needs.

    Location

    The person hired for this role will work in a dynamic, hybrid environment, with 2 to 3 days per week of on-site work required in our Indianapolis office on a weekly basis.
