Position Summary

Responsible for, the day-to-day operations of Blood Distribution from Distribution Center(s). This position is responsible for staffing, schedule changes and coaching/mentoring team members. Relates effectively with all levels of staff and facilitates daily operational needs as necessary.

Responsibilities
    With input from the Inventory group, manage local inventory based on collections projections and demand for components from internal and external markets
  • Ensures products are labeled, modified, stored and distributed in accordance with FDA regulations, AABB standards, and standard operating procedures
  • Manages schedules and rotates staff to ensure processes are timely, effective and efficient in a 24/7/365 operation
  • Assists staff during times of increased workload or short staffing
  • Encourages and maintains a culture of respect, teamwork and continuous improvement
  • Acts as a role model by demonstrating leadership, knowledge, safe practices and problem-solving skills
  • Accountable for staff management to include hiring, performance reviews, discipline and termination according to applicable policies and in collaboration with Human Resources
  • Monitors systems and processes for compliance with regulations and SOPs; participates in root cause analysis, works with staff to ensure deviations/errors are appropriately identified, investigated and documented, and that appropriate corrective and preventive action is taken, including subsequent monitoring for effectiveness
  • Works collaboratively with members of Inventory, Training, Equipment, Logistics, Hospital Relations, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, Human Resources, Information Services and Facilities.
  • Regularly meets with staff and effectively communicates and reports progress in meeting departmental goals and objectives
  • Mentors and coaches staff to develop and maintain staff competence and performance
  • Ensures instrument preventative maintenance and quality control are performed and documented on time and as required
  • Develops Versiti wide peer relationships and excels in a functional group setting
  • Assures that errors and deviations are reported, documented, and investigated on-time and according to institutional policy and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to take calls on off-shifts and during weekend/holiday coverage
  • Assists in designing processes, validations and training protocols.
  • Identifies process improvements and assists with documentation
  • Assists in cross-training to foster an environment of teamwork between Production and Distribution Departments
  • Assists with annual budget planning
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred

Experience

  • 4-6 years supervisory experience preferred
  • 4-6 years experience in a regulated environment preferred
  • Experience in health care preferred
  • Blood center or laboratory experience preferred
  • May be required to meet IEMA/NRC criteria for "trustworthy and reliable", in order to oversee the operation of certain blood irradiators required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing/Laboratory Practices and/ or FDA regulations desired
  • Ability to work autonomously, as required, and motivate the team to achieve results
  • Experience with continuous improvement systems desired
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as Standard Operating Procedures, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and other technical documents
  • Ability to produce reports, graphs and communications for senior leadership as requested and within the scope of the position
  • Ability to apply judgment to address procedural, equipment, customer and staff issues
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including team building and problem solving
  • Ability to organize a productive workflow and lead the team to meet departmental goals

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)-AMT preferred
  • ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist preferred
  • Medical Technology program, MT or equivalent preferred

Tools and Technology

  • Personal Computer (desktop, lap top, tablet) required
  • General office equipment (computer, printer, fax, copy machine) required
  • Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
  • BECS system required
