Overview

Job Summary

The Trauma Survivors Network is a community of patients and families seeking to connect after serious traumatic injuries. The Trauma Survivors Network brings together those who have experienced physical trauma and provides support throughout the recovery process.

  • Detailed Shift and Schedule: 4- 9 hr. days; Weekends (Sat/Sun) and Wednesdays; 4th day variable

The Trauma Survivors Network Coordinator promotes the development, implementation, and management of the Trauma Survivors Network. Works closely with the Trauma Survivors Network Supervisor, Trauma Program Director, Trauma Medical Director, and hospital team members, as well as patients, volunteers and families involved in the Trauma Survivors Network program. Works with the hospital team to address diagnosis and treatment of emotional and mental distress following a traumatic event.

Essential Functions

  • Meets all eligible trauma patients in the hospital, educates patients and their families about the TSN and opportunities to participate in the program.
  • Coordinates the development and facilitation of support and education programs such as peer visitation, trauma support groups, family programs and self-management classes for trauma patients and their families.
  • Provides screening, brief counseling, support, and education services to meet the unique mental health challenges of patients and family members, including providing mental health interventions, assisting them in overcoming barriers to recovery and developing self-management skills.
  • Utilizes clinical interventions, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to facilitate behavioral change and adaptation to new circumstances after trauma, crisis intervention, brief therapeutic intervention, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing.
  • Utilizes social work best practices including, abiding by the NASW code of ethics, respecting a patient's right to self-determination, evaluation and implementation of appropriate treatment, and using the strengths-based perspective to identify strengths and services needed during medical crisis and throughout the continuum of care.
  • Screen eligible traumatic injury patients for risk of PTSD and enrolls patients in Trauma Resilience & Recovery Program services.
  • Screen eligible traumatic injury patients using a validated substance use screening tool and if required provide brief intervention and referral to treatment.
  • Provides short-term intervention, treatment option education, follow-up, and mental health referrals for patients enrolled in Trauma Resilience & Recovery Program.
  • Facilitates groups, teaches classes, manages volunteers, and meets with trauma patients and families to facilitate their access to the Trauma Survivors Network program and other resources.
  • Conducts education for the trauma community about Trauma Survivors Network program and services via team member meetings, in-services, meetings with providers, special events, and other venues.
  • Maintains current information on the Trauma Survivors Network website and Trauma Survivors Network marketing materials.
  • Maintains records/documentation as required.

Physical Requirements

Required to sit, speak, and occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work
  • Fully or provisionally licensed in North Carolina as a LCSW
