Job Description
Major Responsibilities
  • Supports the organization's mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives.
  • Maintains Emergency Medical Services or advanced practice licensure, certifications, continuing education, professional development, and stays current in field.
  • Collaborates with pre-hospital care providers on improving and enhancing the pre-hospital care and services provided, including communicating patient needs, technical needs, and recommended improvements.
  • Collaborates with local technical colleges and pre-hospital service providers to provide appropriate education, clinical experience, and compliance with AAH organizational guidelines. Evaluates educational needs of providers, including initial training, recertification, and continuing education.
  • Assists with affiliation process and/or skills training to meet requirements for various levels of services provided, including evaluating clinical competence of providers.
  • Gathers data for quality reviews of pre-hospital care including but not limited to patient care reports and radio reports and provides information and recommendations to leadership regarding program improvement.
  • Provides oversight of pre-hospital supplies, equipment, and technical needs and makes recommendations for areas of improvement to leadership.
  • Conducts routine inventory and ordering of pre-hospital supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Gathers information regarding pre-hospital care concerns and issues and reports findings to leadership.
  • Attends weekly EMS team meeting and additional meetings (as required) to connect with EMS team members and other community members to promote program outcomes.
  • Attends site-based committee meetings as an EMS representative and reports findings and areas for improvement to the EMS team for dissemination to EMS providers.
  • Provides instruction through a variety of delivery methods including on-site training for external customers, online or hybrid/blended, and interactive distance learning where applicable.
  • Assists with transportation of equipment using EMS Ambulance and provides on-site or off-site instruction for a minimum of 25% of all educational sessions offered by the EMS program.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide pre-hospital care appropriate to the age of the patients served and as described in the Aurora South Wisconsin EMS Guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Develops technical proficiency with high-fidelity simulation operation to assist in running scenarios for scheduled trainings.
  • As needed, ensures all equipment needed for educational sessions is prepared and packaged prior to deployment.
  • Assists with ambulance maintenance, vehicle and equipment, and inspections checks as needed.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required:

  • Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) license or higher issued by the state of Wisconsin, and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)

Education Required:
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Emergency Medical Services.

Experience Required:
  • 3 years or equivalent (6000 hours) of experience as a licensed AEMT, Intermediate, Paramedic, or Advanced Practice Provider in pre-hospital emergency care environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years previous EMS teaching experience.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including decision making, team building, customer service, and conflict resolution.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Effectively interacts and communicates on a professional level using excellent communication (written and verbal), listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates human relation skills with the ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of team members, EMS providers and physicians.
  • Self-motivated and requires little to no supervision with the ability to work collaboratively as a team member.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills, and prioritization of tasks in an environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to adjust schedule to manage multiple concurrent activities, meet the changing duties, volume of work, and needs of the EMS program.
  • Proficient in MS software applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, Teams, Outlook, internet, and use of electronic communication.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during work shift. Must be able to:
  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
  • Lift up to 20 lbs over the head.
  • Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
  • Push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
  • Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
  • Will be required to wear gloves, goggles, and gowns on an as-needed basis.
  • Must have functional sight and hearing.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
