Job Description
The Equipment Operator - Utility performs semi-skilled and manual work in the operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical waterworks facilities and customer service.
Starting pay in the Equipment Operator pay range is dependent upon qualifications and experience.  This position requires the employee to obtain a water license within 1 year of obtaining the position.  Upon obtaining the water license the employee would be promoted to a Utility Operator (The 2024 hourly pay range for a Utility Operator is $28.37- $37.03).

The Equipment Operators are required to obtain a commercial drivers license (CDL).  The Village is now accepting applicants that do not currently have their CDL.  The Village will offer up to 50% reimbursement of the tuition costs associated with the training course required to obtain your CDL, up to a maximum $2,000.  The employee must continue employment with the Village for two years, or the reimbursement will need to be paid back to the Village.

** All Village of Greendale Public Works, Water and Sewer employees are required to reside within a 20 mile radius of the Greendale corporate limits before completion of a one-year probationary employment period.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs routine maintenance of motors, pumps, stations and grounds.
  • Performs maintenance and repair of hydrants, valves, valve boxes and main breaks.
  • Collects water samples, flushes systems and checks customer complaints.
  • Inspects and maintains elevated storage tower.
  • Installs, replaces, tests and repairs water meters.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduation or equivalency.
  • Verifiable experience in public works, construction, water/sewer or related field.
  • Confined space entry training required and provided.
  • Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in the English language.
  • Commercial Drivers License preferred at the time of application*.  Minimum Class B with air brake.
  • Ability to obtain a Wisconsin Water Distribution Grade 1 license.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age and a United States Citizen at the time of application
