Modine's Advanced Thermal Systems (ATS) organization is looking for a talented individual to join the Quality team, owning and promoting cybersecurity and functional safety compliance on new product development, working closely with our engineering team. This is a critical role as we continue to enter new markets and customer segments, and develop our next generation solutions aimed at the Commercial Electric Vehicle market. This is a high compliance quality position with primary customer contracts in the transportation/automotive and aerospace industries.

As Project Manager for Cybersecurity and Functional Safety, you will be responsible for leading a cross-functional product development team to ensure compliance to critical product cybersecurity and functional safety standards throughout the product development cycle. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance of Modine product to all aspects of the standards while adhering to our quality management system. This role will work closely with multiple teams to meet the objective, including product development engineering, product development quality, supplier quality, and customer quality within ATS, which supplies customers with solutions to challenging thermal management problems in Commercial Electric Vehicles.

This is an individual contributor role with project management responsibility, and will include close collaboration with the quality teams at our customers. The Project Manager is responsible for championing ISO 26262 functional safety, ISO 21434 product cybersecurity and A-Spice in ATS as a Subject Matter Expert while adhering to our Quality Management Systems (AS9100, ISO9000, IATF16949).

Key Responsibilities

Leadership Role within ATS to Build Our Future

  • Architect, develop and lead the ATS Functional Safety and Cybersecurity Initiative
  • Lead and deploy functional safety process as Functional Safety Manger to comply product functional safety requirements in respective functional disciplines (software, electrical, mechanical design, validation, testing, etc)
  • Lead and deploy cybersecurity process to comply with requirements across software and firmware
  • Align functional safety and product cybersecurity activities with Customers and Suppliers
  • Develop and derive functional safety requirements based on safety concepts
  • Perform system level trade off analysis to balance product cost and safety goals commitment
  • Support new opportunities quotation process and creation of a Development Interface Agreement(s)
  • Coordinate the project Functional Safety Board (FSB) meetings
  • Provide guidance to the Production, Operation, Service and Decommission teams for any FuSa related topics and issues

Safety and Cybersecurity Project Management for Product Development

  • Coordinate and plan necessary functional safety and cybersecurity activities in development project
  • Perform FTA, DFMEA and FMEDA functional safety analysis and assess cybersecurity readiness
  • Support risk assessments and safety concepts
  • Perform verification reviews of safety validation and testing, and cybersecurity
  • Drive automotive process execution excellence within and across multiple functions
  • Manage and track the execution of functional safety (FuSa) and Cybersecurity related activities in a project

Execution of a Robust Safety Plan for Critical Products

  • Lead the development of the Safety Plan (FS Plan) based in impact analysis from an established baseline If appropriate
  • Assign the WPs in the FS plan and product cybersecurity plan to the appropriate roles in engineering competency teams according to the FuSa RACI and Product Development Process
  • Provide FuSa and product cybersecurity technical guidance to the engineering competency teams assigned FuSa and product cybersecurity related WPs and activities in the FS Plan and Cybersecurity Plan
  • Work with the assigned master program manager to integrate key WPs and activities of the FS Plan and Cybersecurity Plan into the project Master Plan, and to monitor and track the execution
  • Maintain an internal issue list and escalate issues per FuSa escalation process
  • Support project change management and deviation Management reviews
  • Develop a project tailored Audit and Assessment plan
  • Compile the Safety Case for the project and coordinate and support the Safety Case WPs approval reviews
  • Act as the primary point of contact with the customer functional safety and cybersecurity team
  • Provide an FuSa based assessment report and cybersecurity report for key suppliers
  • Report formal FuSa and cybersecurity status for any project
Required Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required, preferably electrical. Master's or PhD in Engineering preferred.
  • 5 years plus experience required, preferably in Electrical/Electronic system for industrial or aerospace or military drives, battery electric and hybrid electric vehicle systems. Specifically in a Tier-1 supplier to automotive.
  • Certified Automotive Functional Safety Professional on ISO 26262
  • Knowledge of quality/reliability concepts and their application on product development
  • Experience with quality system requirements: ISO 9000, IATF 16949 and/or AS9100D
  • Working knowledge of requirements for ISO 21434 product cybersecurity highly desired
  • Working knowledge of A-Spice highly desired
  • Knowledge of safety requirements and legal standards
  • Technical skills required to understand work done by the team to propose new methodologies for approaching work
  • Ability to communicate technical or non-technical information in a clear and concise manner
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated history of delivering results in a matrixed organization, leveraging representatives from different departments, organizations, cultures and embracing diversity.
  • Proactive working style with the ability to adapt to change
