Due to continued growth, we have an opportunity for a Benefits and Compensation Specialist to join our team located in Racine, WI. 

Under the direction of the Director of Compensation & Benefits, this position assists in the planning, design, implementation, administration and communication of employee benefit and compensation programs, including payroll processing for our Racine-based employees.  Oversees retiree benefits and ensures that all plans follow legal requirements and company policies.  Seeks out process improvements and implements approved plans.  All activities are performed with the highest level of confidentiality.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare, maintain, and process welfare benefit applications and related documentation, ensuring that the plans are effectively communicated and accurately processed.  Provide input on ensuring that benefit programs remain both cost-effective and competitive.
  • Oversee aspects of weekly and biweekly payroll processing to ensure timely and accurate payments. Resolve discrepancies and implement process improvements. 
  • Assist with the management of the Company’s Defined Benefit retirement plans by recording changes with the pension administration group and pension plan Trustee.  Audit and reconcile and discrepancies. Provide retirement counseling as needed.  Prepare annual statements of DB Cash Balance plan.
  • Administer the Company’s Defined Company’s Defined Contribution retirement plans, calculating DC contributions, and ensuring that plans pass non-discrimination tests.\Provide on-going employee education regarding benefit plans and options, including conducting new hire orientations. Assist in educating employees about compensation and benefit plans through employee communications and meetings.  Meet with active and retired employees regarding welfare and retirement benefit questions and issues.
  • Coordinate the annual open enrollment process.
  • Administers the company's FMLA benefits. Communicates with employees to determine eligibility and leave entitlements.  Provides notice of rights and benefits.  Designates leave, authenticates and clarifies medical certification.  Monitors leave utilization and initiates medical recertification as appropriate.  Coordinates the interaction of FMLA leave with Twin Disc’s policies and benefits, and State and Federal laws, including short-term disability, workers’ compensation and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Process all benefit-related invoices from third party vendors, ensuring on-time submittal to Finance for payment, review of invoices for accurate vendor billing practices, and tracking payments for reporting and cost-saving measures.
  • Administer COBRA process ensuring that notifications and recordkeeping are timely and accurate.
  • Perform a variety of compensation-related activities, such as wage surveys, job description preparation and salary research. Ensure that jobs are FLSA compliant. 
  • Assist in conducting investigations of alternate providers, funding arrangements, benefit structure for appropriate benefit plans and recommends action based on financial and other relevant considerations.\
  • As directed, prepare required internal accounting reports and required government reports for retirement and welfare plans, ensuring that the plans are complying with government laws and regulations, including preparing and maintaining Summary Plan Descriptions, Form 5500s, SARs, etc. 
  • Complete specialized government reporting, including preparation of the PGBC filings, Annual Funding Notices and other necessary forms and reports. Responsible for preparation/submittal of Forms 1095C and 1094C in accordance with the Affordable Care Act. Conduct weekly audit of HRIS data changes, ensuring all changes are accurate and backed up with appropriate documentation. 
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with internal departments (e.g., Finance, Audit) to ensure seamless, positive customer service (vendor payments, employee benefit deductions, etc.)
  • Administer programs within the Company’s wellness and disease management programs, optimizing the utilization of on-site health services.  Assists with developing metrics and tracking effectiveness of these programs.
  • May assist with the administration of Success Plan, the Company's performance management program, including training new employees on the program and assisting existing employees as needed. 

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, insurance or related field
  • CEBS certification or similar a plus
  • Experience working with employees and retirees in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Experience with overseeing benefits administration and payroll processing
Computer Skills:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite of products, including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with ADP or other HRIS systems
  • Experience with ADP payroll processing or similar system
