Old Republic Surety Company (ORSC) is currently seeking an AVP- Accounting Operationsto join its Accounting Operations Team at its home office located in Brookfield, WI. Under the direction of the SVP Administrative & Finance, the Assistant Vice President - Accounting Operations plays a critical role in overseeing and managing the day-to-day accounting operations and staff for the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise direct reports and make recommendations for performance management and disciplinary action. Also, contribute to the new employee selection process and provide employees with training to enhance skills and productivity.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting operations team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Provide team members guidance and mentorship to ensure high performance and professional development.
  • Monitor key financial metrics and performance indicators, providing insights and recommendations to senior management for strategic decision-making. Prepare regular reports and financial analyses related to accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
  • Evaluate existing accounting processes and systems, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions and best practices to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability, drive process standardization, and minimize manual effort.
  • Streamline month-end and year-end close processes, optimizing workflows and reducing cycle times while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes affecting accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring compliance and driving continuous improvement, and to maintain a strong internal control environment. Collaborate with internal audit and compliance teams to conduct periodic reviews, address findings, and mitigate financial risks.
  • Partner with other departments, including agency services, claims, and underwriting, to support business initiatives, resolve issues, and optimize interdepartmental processes. Serve as a subject matter expert on accounts payable and accounts receivable matters, providing guidance and support to internal stakeholders, customers and auditors as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and a minimum
of eight years of progressive experience in accounting roles, including a minimum of three years in a
leadership or managerial capacity. CPA certification is preferred.

Working as an AVP- Accounting Operations requires one to work independently and effectively within a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft (MS) Windows and Office products is necessary.Other skills necessary include excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational and accurate proofreading skills, the ability to maintain accurate records, the ability to exercise discretion with confidential information, strong attention to detail, and the ability to use a variety of office equipment.


PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
This position requires one to sit for extended periods of time and stand and/or walk occasionally. The position requires one to occasionally push, pull, carry, and/or lift up to 10 pounds. No personal protective equipment is required. Ergonomic equipment is available to employees.
