Germantown Mutual Insurance Company is looking to add an Associate Underwriter to its Commercial Lines Team!

JOB SUMMARY
This position is for those individuals seeking an entry-level commercial lines underwriting role.  The Associate Underwriter will assist the Commercial Lines Underwriting Team with many aspects of the new and renewal business process.  They will also be responsible for providing support to the Commercial Lines Underwriters by preparing information for a variety of reports and documents, processing policy changes, and communicating with Independent Agents on Commercial accounts.  As the Underwriting Associate progresses with an understanding of policy coverage forms, underwriting guidelines, and company systems, they will be assigned a book of business. 

JOB DUTIES
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • The following duties and roles will assist the Commercial Lines Underwriting Team.  These functions will also provide growth to the Associate Underwriter in the understanding of policy coverage forms, underwriting guidelines, and the underwriting thought process.
    • Assist in the new business process by creating new files, gathering additional information, and preparing new business quotes.
    • Process endorsements on existing commercial lines policies.
    • Create correspondence to the Agent and Insured at the direction of the Commercial Lines Underwriting Team.   Correspondence to include Inspection Recommendation Letters, Non-Renewal or Cancellation Notices, and Notices of Altered Terms.
    • Process and issue new and renewal business at the direction of the Commercial Lines Underwriting Team, and within designated authority limits.
  • Manage an assigned book of business through the following functions:
    • Evaluate new business submissions by obtaining underwriting information through multiple sources.
    • Through analysis of the underwriting information, make underwriting decisions in accordance with the company’s underwriting rules and best practices. 
    • Evaluate renewal business as needed.  Obtain updated information on renewals in accordance with company guidelines.  Make decisions on renewal offers based on loss experience.  
    • Evaluate in-force business through change requests, notifications from claims, inspection reports, and other activities.
    • Encourage and assist in the production of profitable commercial lines business by maintaining excellent working relationships with agents and company personnel.
    • Travel to assigned agencies to build on agency partnerships and promote products.
  • Address Agent questions through email and telephone correspondence as needed.
  • Participate in the Payments Call Queue.
  • Train others within the same position as needed.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, & SKILLS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication, listening, interpersonal, customer service, and telephone skills.
  • Working knowledge of computers, including data entry, word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to interpret and manipulate data, onto quotes and policies, with accuracy and focus.
