Position Overview
The Application Specialist is the primary technical resource in IT Services for the administration and day-to-day support of their assigned applications. They configure, enhance, integrate, troubleshoot, and report from the applications. They are a liaison between IT Services and other university departments and the campus at large. Build and enhance Marquette's Slate platform for advising and student success. Work with key stakeholders to enhance the CRM and drive adoption. May involve requirements gathering, process design and improvement, automation, and integration, and troubleshooting technical issues.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Acts as the primary administrator for the Slate CRM for student success. Learn, analyze, troubleshoot, and engage vendor support as needed to maintain day-to-day operation of the CRM. Configure and customize Slate to meet the specific needs and workflows of different departments and users, including forms, reports, workflows, and portals.
2. Collaborate with multiple functional leads on requirements gathering, design, and implementation of new solutions or reports in the CRM in response to changing business needs.
3. Work in project teams to support the upgrade of current systems and implementation of new software.
4. Leverage integration tools and Slate features to transfer data in and out of the CRM. Find innovative uses for the data available from other campus applications and how it might be useful in the CRM.
5. Provide guidance in the use of the Slate CRM for student success. Provide subject matter expertise to IT Services management and others. Create internal and external documentation as needed.
6. Comply with FERPA policies and other relevant policies. Alert IT Services management to compliance issues and concerns. Comply with ITS change management procedures.
7. Gain and maintain in-depth knowledge of the functionality provided by Slate and best practices established in the user community. Keep abreast of technology trends and colleague organizations in areas affecting their applications. This might include participation in online communities, meetings, and training opportunities.
8. Learn and provide backup coverage for Application Specialists in other areas as assigned.
9. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience or High School diploma with at least 4 years of relevant experience. Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Experience with application administration and concepts, including client-server architecture, database structures, and user accounts and permissions.

Experience with data extraction and integration, including SQL and RESTful APIs.

Ability to evaluate business processes and technical functionality to establish and communicate best practices to an application's user groups.

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.

The ability to maintain an effective working relationship with a diverse group of colleagues and end users.

The ability to manage multiple and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment,

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, and related tools.
