Summary:

The Data Privacy Consultant is primarily responsible for the design, implementation and oversight of processes and procedures related to Privacy. Works closely with Privacy Leadership and the Privacy Team to further the Privacy Department Mission of ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering consumer trust while providing foundational capabilities for unlocking the value of data. Provides thought leadership on a team of Privacy Professionals and collaborates with business leaders and peers throughout the enterprise to help teams understand the "why" and "how" behind the Privacy Program.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supports various Privacy Department activities (e.g., Shredding Days, Annual Meeting, Security Awareness Days, Privacy Week, etc.).
  • Supports privacy incident response by helping to investigate and resolve privacy incidents. Accountable for initial review, data gathering and analysis of Privacy Incidents.
  • Supports online privacy initiatives including use of tracking technologies and digital property governance.
  • Supports response to Data Subject Rights requests.
  • Partners with other Departments to identify issues, proposals, or plans that have privacy implications and resolve existing issues. This includes analyzing current state and preparing for evolving privacy and transforming technology environments.
  • Completes privacy impact assessments and identifies requirements and mitigating controls. Partners with business and technology teams to ensure timely implementation of requirements and mitigating controls.
  • Assists with monitoring activities to ensure continuing compliance with the privacy program.
  • Develops communication to the field, home office and clients regarding current information protection topics and trends, changes to policy and procedures, training initiatives, and resources.
  • Develops and analyzes metrics and reports for incidents and communication/awareness efforts for the Home Office and the Field.
  • Owns department privacy projects, developing project plans, core teams and project managing. Assists Privacy consultants with Enterprise Privacy project administration and facilitation.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in privacy or records management using industry standards and best practices
  • Official designation or certification in privacy like CIPP/US either acquired before hire or achieved during employment
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field(s) desirable.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to adjust to changing business needs by effectively managing and prioritizing concurrent assignments.
  • Demonstrated high level of communication skills with an understanding of organization structure and work processes.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact, influence, and persuade others.
  • Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and carry out multiple, diverse assignments.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, as well as presentation and platform speaking skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and standards, and research and apply industry frameworks
  • Experience with Privacy Technology Suites (OneTrust) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently identify and resolve critical issues through effective problem-solving skills

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$82,670.00

Pay Range - End:

$153,530.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
